The living habits of turtledoves

1. Nesting: adult turtledoves nest in trees, usually nesting in small trees or bushes, but also in houses and garden fruit trees. The nest is very simple and crude, mainly composed of withered branches, with a height of more than 3 meters from the ground, with an outer diameter of 14 cm and an inner diameter of 8 cm.

2. Gregarious: the turtledove is a gregarious species. It forms a large community where there is plenty of food, such as cereals. The call is "goo-goo". The second sound is heavier and repeated many times, because it sounds like the Greek decaocto (XVIII), hence the scientific name.

3. Reproduction: the breeding period of the gray turtledove is from April to August, or 2 nests a year, with 2 eggs per litter. The egg color is milky white and the shape is oval. The eggs are mainly hatched by females, and the males mostly rest and watch near the nest. The incubation period is 14-16 days, and the nestling becomes sexual late. After hatching, the chicks are fed together by both male and female parents. After about 15-17 days of feeding, the chicks can fly out of the nest.
