Brown turtledove, also known as blue-shouldered turtledove, is distributed in Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and possibly artificially introduced into Turkey, Palestine, Syria, Australia and Chinese mainland. It generally lives in deserts, semi-deserts, oases and low-growing areas.

The brown spot dove is small, about 25 cm, with a long tail and short wings, which is different from the gray turtledove in its smaller size, no black neck ring, dark color and more like the European turtledove. Without the pattern on the neck and wings of a turtledove, but with a brown neck band with black spots. The outer tail feather is white, with unique blue-gray wing spots, brown iris, gray mouth and pink feet.

Brown turtledoves inhabit among oasis trees in desert and semi-desert areas and near villages and towns. they usually feed on plant seeds, fruits and buds on the ground, and are also addicted to grains. It usually lays 2-3 eggs a year, nesting in trees, bushes, thorns, forests or cactus bushes, and often nesting on balconies, walls or eaves of houses.

The main threat of brown turtledoves is the killing and destruction of nests and eggs by people, followed by the unreasonable use of chemical pesticides. It has now been included in the list of terrestrial wildlife with beneficial national protection or important economic and scientific research value issued by the State Forestry Administration of China on August 1, 2000.
