Desert rose, also known as Tianbao flower, is a succulent plant of the genus Apocynaceae. Although there is a rose in its name, it is not a rose growing in a desert area, nor is it closely related or similar to a rose. Instead, it is named desert rose because its origin is close to the desert and is as red as a rose. Let's take a look at the breeding methods of desert roses.

Growth habits of Desert Rose

Desert rose likes the climatic environment of high temperature, drought and plenty of sunshine, likes the sandy loam with rich calcium, loose air and good drainage, is not resistant to shade, avoid waterlogging, avoid thick fertilizer and raw fertilizer, and is afraid of cold, and the suitable temperature for growth is 25 ~ 30 ℃. Summer can be placed outside in a sunny place without shade and fully watered to keep the soil moist, but not stagnant water. Controlled watering is needed in winter, and the overwintering temperature is maintained above 10 ℃ to make the fallen leaves dormant. In cultivation, organic fertilizer should be applied 2 to 3 times a year.

Propagation methods of Desert Rose

1. Cuttage: desert rose cuttings are best in summer, 1-2-year-old branches are selected, and the top branches are the best, cut into 10 cm long, cut into sand bed after the cut is dried, and rooting about 3-4 weeks after cutting.

1. Grafting: oleander is used as rootstock in desert rose grafting. Split grafting method is used in summer. After survival, the plant grows healthily and blossoms easily.

3. Crimping: desert rose striping is often used in summer by high-altitude crimping, cutting off 2 / 3 of the sturdy branches, filling it with moss and then bandaging it with plastic film, rooting for about 25 days, and cutting off the potted plants 45 days later.

4. Sowing: desert rose was sown in summer and the germination temperature was 21 ℃.

Culture methods of Desert Rose

1. Soil quality: desert roses grow close to the desert, so they like sandy soil with good drainage. When plants grow luxuriantly, they can add some river sand or small gravel to their matrix to facilitate drainage, while desert roses at seedling stage should be changed every year.

2. Sunshine: desert roses help to blossom in a good sunshine environment, even in the dormant period.

3. Temperature: desert rose is suitable for growing in high temperature and ventilated environment, and its cold resistance is poor. It is generally easy to feed in the south. It should be moved indoors in winter to keep dry.

4. Fertilization: desert roses grow in the rainy season of spring and summer every year, during which the growth rate of desert roses is very fast, and slow-acting fertilizers are preferred, such as rotten compost.

5. Pruning: if the desert rose does not pay attention to pruning, it is easy to lose its ornamental value. The best pruning time is after its flowering period. If you want to get more flowers, you must find a way to keep more ramets.

6. Overwintering: desert roses are dormant in autumn and winter, and their growth is very slow or even stopped, so there is no need to apply fertilizer in autumn and winter.

7. change the basin: the desert rose should change the basin every year at the seedling stage, and the method of changing the basin is very simple. First, stop watering before changing the basin, and then after the basin soil is completely dry, you can pour out the plant, remove the old basin soil and trim the root system, and then plant it again.

Matters needing attention in desert rose culture

1. Desert roses should be dry rather than wet during the growing period. During the high temperature period in summer, they should be watered once every 3 days, and no water should be accumulated in the basin.

2. In the vigorous growth season in spring, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied for 2 to 3 times, and compound fertilizer containing calcium and phosphorus can be applied twice before flowering.

3. Soft rot is the main disease harmful to desert roses, which is mainly manifested in the initial white or light yellow near the surface, and finally becomes dark brown, or even rot, which is mainly due to poor ventilation and stagnant water in the basin, so usually watering should not be too much. 1000 times of agricultural streptomycin or 150 times of Bordeaux should be sprayed every one month or so for drug control.
