Crab claw orchid is a cactus family Crab claw orchid epiphytic succulent plants, for common ornamental plants, parks and flower beds all over our country are cultivated, more grafted on the measuring ruler or other rootstocks, in order to obtain flourishing plants, propagation methods have cuttage propagation, seeding propagation and grafting propagation, production is mainly based on grafting propagation, below we will take a look at Crab claw orchid propagation method!

Cuttage propagation of Cymbidium sinensis

When cutting propagation, choose healthy and thick stem nodes to cut off 1~2 nodes, put in shade for 2~3 days, insert them into sand bed after the incision is slightly dry, the substrate is peat and sand with the ratio of 4:1, and the temperature of cutting bed is 15~20℃. The humidity of the slotting bed should not be too high, so as to avoid excessive moisture and decay of the incision. Rooting begins 2~3 weeks after insertion, and can be potted after 4 weeks.

Sowing and breeding of crab claw orchid

Crabapple can bear fruit only after artificial pollination. It is often planted in indoor pots. The optimum temperature for germination is 22~24℃. The sowing substrate is mixed soil of peat, moldy soil and coarse sand. It needs high temperature disinfection before sowing. After sowing, cover the pot with glass in order to keep the soil humidity. Germinate 5~9 days after sowing. Seedling grows slowly and should be carefully managed.

Grafting propagation of crab claw orchid

1. Grafting time: grafting time can be in late spring and early summer, or late summer and early autumn, but grafting in late spring and early summer is best. In the south, the most suitable month is the middle of May, which is the peak season for the growth of crab claw orchid and cacti. Ideal scion and rootstock can be selected. In addition, the temperature is suitable at this time, the affinity between scion and rootstock is strong, not easy to rot, and the survival rate is relatively high.

2. Rootstock selection: The grafting rootstock of crab claw orchid is selected from the annual long strip type, the flesh is not too thick, but the cactus branches grow vigorously and have no diseases and insect pests as the rootstock, and the length is between 8 and 12 cm. Take it down from the mother, cut the lower end into a flat mouth, cut it into sand soil, cultivate it for 2~3 months, and make it into grafted rootstock after survival.

3. scion selection: selecting a healthy parent plant of the crab claw orchid for grafting scion, selecting a tender terminal branch with nodes from the parent plant as a scion, and the length is 3 to 4 centimeters (the scion is too long and the growth potential is weak after germination). Cut both sides of the scion into wedges with a blade disinfected by alcohol, and the cutting length is about 0.8~1.2 cm.

4. Grafting method: First, bevel the two sides of the scion base into duckbill shape. Sliced length of 1.5~2.5 cm, as far as possible a knife cut into, easy to survive. Then cut a knife longitudinally at the top of the rootstock, the width and depth of the knife should be a little larger than the scion, and quickly insert the scion into the rootstock incision and fix it. Finally, the flower pot is placed in a cool and ventilated place to avoid wind and rain, and it is expected to survive for about 20 to 30 days.
