The crab claw orchid is an epiphytic succulent plant of the cactus family, which is commonly cultivated in the tropics and subtropics all over the world. Cutting propagation and grafting reproduction can be used for reproduction, but the best way is to use grafting, and the plants grow out of it are relatively good-looking. No matter it is viewed alone or decorated to beautify the living room, it can have a very good effect. Let's take a look at the grafting technology of crab claw orchid.

Grafting time of crab claw orchid

The grafting time is in late spring and early summer, or in late summer and early autumn, but the grafting in late spring and early summer is the best. In the south, mid-May is the most suitable, when crab claw orchid and cactus are in the peak growing season, and ideal scions and rootstocks can be selected. In addition, the temperature is suitable at this time, the affinity of scion and rootstock is strong, it is not easy to rot, and the survival rate is relatively high. The scion should choose the vigorous growth of the tender branches, choose the part with the top is the most ideal, about 8 to 10 centimeters long. Use cactus as rootstock, choose an one-year-old single cactus specially used as rootstock, about 15 cm long, and the meat should be thin and moderate.

Grafting technique of crab claw orchid

1. Rootstock selection: the one-year growth strip type, not too thick but vigorous, disease-free cactus branch was selected as the rootstock, with a length of 8cm to 12cm. Take it from the matrix, cut the lower end into a flat mouth, cut it into sandy soil, cultivate it for 2-3 months, and then make a grafted rootstock after survival.

2. Scion selection: the strong mother plant of crab claw orchid was selected for grafting scion, from which the tender top branch with nodes was selected as scion with a length of 3 cm to 4 cm (the scion grew weakly after sprouting). Cut the lower sides of the scion into a wedge with an alcohol sterilized blade, with a cutting length of about 0.8-1.2 cm.

3. Grafting method: first, the two sides of the basal segment of the scion are obliquely cut into a duckbill shape. The length of the cutting surface is 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters, which can be cut with one knife as far as possible to facilitate survival. Then cut longitudinally at the top of the rootstock, the width and depth of the knife is a little larger than the cutting surface of the scion, and the cut scion is quickly inserted into the cut of the rootstock and fixed. Finally, the connected flowerpot is placed in a cool and ventilated place from the wind and rain, and it is expected to survive in about 20 to 30 days.

Grafting management of crab claw orchid

1. Shading and avoiding light: after grafting, the crab claw orchid should do a good job of shading and avoiding light. The crab claw orchid that just got away from the plant is very easy to wilt due to too much water loss, so it must be moved to the shade at this time to reduce the evaporation of water.

2. Proper watering: after grafting, the crab claw orchid should be properly watered to keep the basin soil slightly wet. Under normal circumstances, watering once every three or four days, be careful when watering to avoid water entering the incision.

3. Timely fertilization: if it does not wilt after half a month after proper watering and grafting, it shows that it has survived, and appropriate fertilization can be applied after a month to provide nutrients for plant growth in time.

4. Timely scaffolding: after the grafted crab claw orchid survived, its stem should be fixed and properly bound in time in the process of its growth, so as to maintain the integrity and beauty of the plant shape.

5. Disease prevention and insect control: crab claw orchid is easy to get rot, which can be scraped off with sterilized knife and smeared with sulfur powder. Insect pests are mainly shell insects and aphids, if there is an occurrence, the number is small, can be removed with a brush. When the quantity is large, 1000 times of omethoate EC or 50% fenitrothion EC can be sprayed and sprayed again every 20 days.
