Longevity flowers are mostly propagated by cutting methods, and there are two cutting methods: leaf cutting and terminal bud cutting, general leaf cutting and tissue culture are mostly used for the production of female parent seedlings, and terminal bud cutting is mostly used for potted flower production. Let's take a look at the cutting propagation methods of longevity flowers.

Cutting methods of longevity flowers

1, leaf cutting: pick the whole leaf (the bigger the better), put it in a cool place to dry the wound, after a few hours, the petiole is completely inserted into the moist matrix, such as the petiole is too short, you can also insert a part of the leaf into the matrix to replace the short petiole, this stage is not too wet, so as to prevent the leaf from getting sick and rot, after cutting, put it in a weaker place in the sun and keep the temperature between 20: 25 ℃. The root system begins to be established after 4 weeks, when it can be put under full-day sunshine and low concentration of fertilizer can be applied. The seedlings differentiated from callus can be seen after 7 weeks and 10 weeks. When the seedlings reach 15~20cm, they can be separated from the leaves and cultured alone, while the leaves can continue to produce seedlings. Separate seedlings can be used as maternal seedlings for the production of rootless cuttings.

2. Terminal bud cuttage: insert the prepared rootless cuttings directly into the flowerpot with the substrate to keep the substrate moist. The matrix is generally mixed with peat and perlite in the ratio of 7 ∶ 3, and the pH of the matrix is adjusted to between 5.5 and 6.0. Producers can adjust the proportion according to their own water quality, production variety and production season, or add soilless substrates such as vermiculite and sand to achieve a matrix with good drainage and moderate nutrients. In addition, the light intensity should not be too strong, keep the temperature between 20-25 ℃, about 2-3 weeks can take root, and then enter the production period management. Terminal bud cuttings are generally used for potted flower production (note: longevity flowers are typical plants that bloom in long days, sunshine time must be longer than 12.5 hours during cutting propagation, and light must be replenished when cutting propagation in winter).

Cutting methods of longevity flowers

1. Cutting time: the leaf cutting of longevity flowers can be carried out all year round, but it is better in summer and autumn. Before cutting, prepare the cutting bed first, and the cutting substrate is fine river sand or sandy loam with good drainage.

2. Cutting method: the second day after longevity flower cutting, 0.1% sucrose and urea mixture was sprayed to the cuttings. As the longevity flower is a succulent plant with high water content, it should not be watered too frequently and the substrate is too wet, which is easy to cause root rot, which is usually watered every 2 to 3 days. Be careful not to get caught in the rain on rainy days. After about half a month, it can take root, and after 3-4 weeks, the calli at the base of the petiole can grow small tiller buds. After the tiller buds are unearthed, 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate and sucrose mixture is sprayed once.

3. Management after insertion: 0.5% foliar nutrient solution of flowers is sprayed every 10 days, and one and a half months later, it can be planted in a pot. The basin soil should be well drained, loose and fertile sandy loam. After being put on the basin, it should be watered every 2-3 days. If the temperature is lower than 5 °C in winter, move people indoors to survive the winter.

Matters needing attention of longevity flowers

1, the temperature is suitable: the longevity flower likes the warm environment, too cold or too hot is not conducive to its growth, in the day its temperature is not more than 30 degrees, and at night it is not less than 18 degrees, the temperature is too high or too low will cause it to be dormant, that is, stop growing. Therefore, when raising longevity flowers, you should avoid exposure to the sun in summer, and keep them indoors in winter to avoid freezing.

2. Sufficient water: the longevity flower is a drought-tolerant plant, and its demand for water is relatively low. It only needs to be watered twice a week. It should be noted that if you have watered it at noon, then be sure to keep the leaves of the longevity flower dry before night.

3. Plenty of sunshine: longevity flowers prefer to grow in a sunny environment. If they are kept in a shady environment for a long time, they cannot carry out normal photosynthesis and cannot grow normally. At the same time, it will lead to longevity flowers losing leaves or not blooming. Therefore, we can put it in a sunny place in general season, but avoid exposure to the sun in summer.

4. appropriate fertilization: any plant can not grow without the right amount of fertilizer, and the longevity flower is no exception. Only when it has sufficient nutrients can it grow normally. During the growth period of the longevity flower, we should fertilize it every two weeks. This will help to promote its growth needs.
