Baldness is a common phenomenon in corn production, and the following measures can be taken to prevent it.

Corn bald

1. Selection of improved varieties: improved maize varieties are the basis of high yield and the key to production. The heredity of maize varieties directly affects maize productivity, stress resistance and adaptability. Selecting suitable varieties according to local conditions can maximize the yield-increasing effect of excellent varieties and reduce the incidence of baldness.

2. Sowing at the right time: the planting of corn should fully take into account various factors such as climate, variety and soil. Corn likes warmth, is not tolerant to low temperature, and requires higher temperature during the whole growth period. If sowing too early, the seedling stage is long, the emergence rate is low, the seedling is weak, and the physiological disease is serious; if sowing too late, it will affect the late filling and lead to mature too late. Generally, spring corn should be sowed when the soil temperature is more than 12 ℃, and summer corn should be finished by the end of June at the latest.

3. Reasonable close planting: reasonable planting density should be adopted according to climatic factors, irrigation conditions, soil fertility and variety types, so that maize populations have good ventilation and light transmission conditions, maize individuals can be well developed, and the occurrence of corn baldness can be reduced.

4. Fertilization and irrigation: in the growth and development stage of corn, it is important to fertilize and irrigate it. On the basis of applying sufficient basic fertilizer, it is in line with the principle of light before, medium heavy and after supplement. The main nutrition at the panicle stage is nitrogen fertilizer, and the appropriate amount of jointing fertilizer and panicle fertilizer is mainly applied during the pollination period. If there is no rain after fertilization, the maize should be irrigated in time to ensure the normal growth and development of maize, so as to reduce baldness.

5. Castration: the male ear should be carried out between rows or plants just after the apical leaf has not been pollinated, not too much, otherwise it will be poor pollination, resulting in empty ear. After castration, maize can reduce plant water and nutrient consumption, promote ear length, improve upper ventilation and light transmission conditions of corn, improve photosynthetic efficiency and reduce the harm of corn.

6. Artificial pollination: under normal circumstances, artificial pollination is carried out at about 10:00 when the temperature is suitable in the full flowering period. if there is dew, it should be carried out after the dew is slightly dry.

7. Prevention of diseases and insect pests: the diseases and insect pests that often occur in corn should be prevented and controlled according to different conditions, which can improve the yield of corn.
