In the short term, there is little difference between grapes with and without base fertilizer. However, after a year or two, in the case of the same amount of fruit, the leaf senescence rate of grape plants with basal fertilizer will be relatively slower, the leaf retention time will be relatively prolonged, and the persistence of photosynthesis will provide a guarantee for flowering and fruit hanging in the coming year.

Many fruit growers report that leaves fall quickly in the late stage of hanging fruit, which is one of the reasons.

In the process of ditching and applying base fertilizer, the trees were indirectly ploughed and loosened, which helped to increase soil permeability. The main component of base fertilizer is organic fertilizer, which is helpful to improve soil structure. The organic-inorganic combination of base fertilizer can slowly release nutrients and continuously supply the nutrients needed for the early growth of grapes.

Reasonable application of base fertilizer can not only avoid the problem of excessive vegetative growth in the early stage of grape growth, but also avoid the problem of not growing up in the early stage and fatigue in the later stage, but also contribute to the overwintering growth of grape plants.

> Why is it not recommended to apply base fertilizer twice?

The most direct disadvantage of applying base fertilizer twice is the increase of economic input and great damage to grape root system. According to the traditional concept of applying base fertilizer, cut off the old roots and give birth to new ones. As a matter of fact, the chopped main root is extremely difficult to recover, and the fibrous root is easier to restore, so we should pay attention to protecting the main root when opening ditches. Secondly, the main purpose of applying base fertilizer is to supplement a large amount of organic fertilizer, once a year is enough, do not need many times, other supplements can be through the traditional way of water and fertilizer.

When will the base fertilizer be applied once?

The application of base fertilizer should be applied one and a half months before pruning, because the application is too early, especially after fruit harvest, it is easy to grow in the early stage, resulting in weakness in the later stage of grape growth. If it happens to meet the fruit expansion period, it is not conducive to fruit expansion treatment. In addition, one and a half months of pruning gave the roots time to grow and recover. The restoration of grape tree potential after fruit harvest can be realized by conventional application of water and fertilizer.

Five misunderstandings in the application of base fertilizer

1. Ditching with bottom fertilizer is not as deep as possible.

Few grape roots can reach 40cm, and most of them are distributed between 20-30cm, especially in sprinkler irrigation system, the phenomenon of root floating is more serious. Ditching should not be too deep, so as not to reduce the efficiency of organic fertilizer.

2. Base fertilizer should be considered to promote the maturity of fruiting branches.

The fruiting branch is very stout, but the flower is very small after budding. One of the important reasons is that the fruiting branch is not mature enough. Therefore, grape base fertilizer in the choice of inorganic fertilizer is also very important, not balanced is the best. In this aspect, it is mainly considered to promote the maturity of fruit-bearing branches and the restoration of root system.

3. Let you cut off your roots and don't really "break"

Numerous people are misled by the phrase "cut off old roots and grow new ones". Cutting off the old root, strictly speaking, refers to the aging fibrous root and a small number of not too thick main root, not the main one. Root cutting as far as possible to avoid cutting off the main root, the amount of root cutting should also be strictly controlled, not more than 1/3 of the total root.

4. don't expose yourself to the sun for too long.

Many people think that it is not easy to open a deep ditch to sun well and disinfect the soil. I wonder if you have observed carefully that if the ditch is opened for too long, the root system will be cut off and exposed to the sun for too long, and the root system will slowly wither or even rot. It is very difficult for such roots to recover.

5. A good time to eliminate underground pests

In the land where underground pests, especially grubs and other underground pests are seriously damaged, better results can be achieved by using this opportunity treatment combined with base fertilizer.
