Milk cabbage is a plant type of medium-short fat and broad petiole in non-heading Chinese cabbage (common cabbage, Chinese cabbage, Chinese cabbage, rape). It is a 2012 herb of Brassica cruciferae. It is cultivated in Guangdong and has very high nutritional value. it has the functions of heat-clearing and detoxification, invigorating the stomach and so on. Let's take a look at the planting technology of milk cabbage.

Growth habits of milk cabbage

Milk cabbage is native to southern China and likes cool climate. it grows best when the average temperature is 18-20 ℃ and sunny. It can withstand short-term-2-month-3 ℃. Dark green varieties are not heat-tolerant. Milk cabbage has shallow roots and weak absorptive capacity, which requires continuous supply of fertilizer and water during the growth period and is not resistant to waterlogging.

Seedling raising technique of Milk Chinese Cabbage

1. Planting time: Chinese cabbage can be cultivated in the open field in Beijing from spring to autumn in frost-free period, mainly harvesting young plants. When the temperature is low in spring, it can be harvested in about 40 days, and can be harvested in 22-28 days from summer to autumn. Cultivated in protected areas in cold season, it can be produced all year round and supply the market.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings: the method of raising seedlings and transplanting large plants of milk cabbage is used, the seedling stage is 20-25 days, the row spacing of planting plants is 15 × 15 cm, and the planting is 30 days after harvest. Due to the large temperature difference between day and night in Beijing area, it is more suitable for the growth of milk cabbage, the growth period is short, mainly direct seeding, or the overdense seedlings are removed from another place after direct seeding. The strip sowing is better, the row spacing is 1215cm, and the plant spacing is 1015cm when the seedlings are fixed. The sowing rate is 400 to 500 grams per mu.

Field management of milk cabbage

1. Rational fertilization: the production cycle of milk cabbage is short, so more organic fertilizer should be applied as base fertilizer, chemical fertilizer should be applied properly during growth period, or leaf fertilizer should be applied combined with sprinkler irrigation. Topdressing is mainly based on available nitrogen fertilizer, and the method, period and dosage of fertilization should be determined according to seedling condition, soil and weather, and the principle is thin fertilizer for many times.

2. Ploughing and watering: the direct seeding field of milk cabbage should use herbicides to eliminate weeds during sowing, and weeding combined with seedlings at seedling stage. Watering is generally combined with topdressing. The transplanted seedlings should not be short of water within 3-5 days after planting, and should be watered every morning and evening for 3-4 consecutive days after planting in summer and early autumn.

3. Pest control: the common diseases of milk cabbage include virus disease, downy mildew, white spot disease and so on. Comprehensive agricultural measures can be taken, such as avoiding replanting or adjacent to other cruciferous vegetables, rational drainage and irrigation, and increasing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to improve plant resistance. drug control can be sprayed with chlorothalonil and other fungicides. The main pests are vegetable aphid, stem borer, cabbage butterfly, yellow striped beetle and so on, which should be detected and controlled as soon as possible, and the control method is the same as that of general cruciferous vegetables.

4. Timely harvest: the harvest of milk cabbage is mainly determined according to the needs of the market. The standard of adult harvest is that the leaves of the plant change from exuberant growth to closed growth, and the heart leaves elongate to level with the outer leaves. At this time, the weight of a single plant is about 275 grams and the yield per mu is 1000 to 1600 kilograms. The catering industry generally needs small plants, the weight of a single plant is 50 to 100 grams, the growth period is about 20 days, and the yield per mu is 600 to 800 kilograms.

5. Seed collection: the seed collection of Chinese cabbage should be strictly isolated from other Chinese cabbage vegetables, and should also be isolated from other cultivated crops of Brassica. The spatial isolation of the original seed field should be at least 2000 meters. The isolation distance of seed field for production should not be less than 1000 meters. Most of the seeds used for production should be placed in the northern farming area, and seeds should be produced by small plant seed collection method.
