(Taiwan Business Daily News) the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday that the "two trillion double stars" policy has its time and space background. in recent years, the government has also actively promoted the transformation of the industrial structure, production and reform, and nurtured the development of backbone enterprises with potential.

Zhu Lilun, mayor of Xinbei, criticized the "2 trillion double stars" made by the Ministry of Economic Affairs 10 years ago as a nightmare and a very wrong industrial policy, resulting in Taiwan's industry moving towards uneven resources.

With regard to the above statement, an official from the Ministry of Economic Affairs said that Taiwan has developed quite well in the semiconductor and panel industry in the past, of which some of the panel industry has advantages for Taiwan and South Korea, while the semiconductor industry belongs to Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, and Japan.

Officials pointed out that although the current performance was not very good, Taiwan actually had great opportunities for development in the above two major areas at that time, "once earning one amount of capital a year" and creating a lot of jobs and foreign exchange.

Officials say the recent rise of the mainland, coupled with Taiwan's own failure to open a leading gap in innovation, has led to problems of subsequent competitiveness or failure to improve value.

With the change of time and space, officials say that the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Economic Affairs are also thinking about how to enhance the value of production transmission or identify enterprises with development potential in Taiwan. therefore, in recent years, we have begun to promote policies such as the transmission and renovation of production, the development of key enterprises, the three industries and four modernizations (the service industry, the science and technology and internationalization of the service industry, and the characteristics of traditional industries).

Since one of the "2 trillion double stars" refers to semiconductors, officials stressed that semiconductors are not only DRAM, but many semiconductor companies in Taiwan, such as TSMC and MediaTek, are doing quite well.

Officials said that how to adjust, transform and upgrade the two industries in the future also involves global supply and demand and cross-strait issues. Taking the panel as an example, we are thinking about how to enable cross-strait industries to benefit each other under the framework of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), such as striving for preferential tariffs or promoting cross-strait industrial cooperation in trade negotiations.
