(Taiwan Business News) Taiwan media chaos is often one of the things criticized by Chinese people. the hung kwan pei cultural foundation and taiwan daily newspaper invited lin sheng fen, chairman of china television corporation, to speak on "progress in multicultural society" at the zhongshan lecture hall of dr. sun yat-sen memorial hall on february 15. lin spoke on multiculturalism with his background in journalism, communication and media management for many years.

Lin Shengfen, chairman of China Television Corporation, said that Taiwan's geographical location is special, forming a multiculturalism. From the political lifting of martial law, the full election of the National Assembly, the rotation of political parties, and the opening up of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan has experienced ups and downs like a "fantasy drift."

Lin Shengfen, Chairman of China Television Corporation, Public Welfare Speech: Media Chaos, Fantasy Drifting in Taiwan

In 1989, the ban on newspapers was lifted, and rapid changes occurred in political, social and economic fields. Newspapers increased, followed by the opening of electronic media, and the media ecology changed dramatically. In this environment, Taiwan society is like a flying horse that has broken free from bondage, and the media ecology is developing in the direction of freedom and openness. The opening of radio and television cable and wireless in 1990 was the beginning of media chaos.

After the lifting of martial law, the media can be described as "numerous" and "chaotic." Especially in the past two years, the economic downturn has made it difficult for the media to operate. The media can only bow to the market giants for professional autonomy. The phenomenon of news advertising has become more and more serious.

Lin Shengfen, chairman of China Television Corporation, said that Taiwan TV has many things that other world powers cannot match, which is also the source of chaos. Media abundance is a normal phenomenon in a free market of opinion. Because there are many media outlets, even if each media has its own position, it will not hinder the diversified presentation of news and speech. It can balance each other, compete fairly, and provide the majority of readers with the right to choose information.

The lifting of the ban on newspapers has given Taiwan society and the media an opportunity to establish a pluralistic, open and unbiased public sphere. Unfortunately, although there are many media outlets in Taiwan, today's Taiwan media chaos really gives people an extremely negative impression. These media only stir up short stories and only emphasize blood. Everything is profit oriented. There is no meaningful and in-depth international news. There is also a lack of in-depth analysis and reporting on Taiwan's political and economic situation and future development. An accidental incident or an artist fight can be reported continuously for a week. Add to that those all-knowing and all-powerful so-called famous mouths, and chaos comes from this.

In the West, people regard the media as the so-called fourth power besides the executive, legislative and judicial powers, playing a positive role in supervising the government and showing public opinion. Ideal must not be said to be lofty. Past empirical experience also shows that many media have indeed played a role. The New York Times reported the anti-Vietnam war news and the Washington Post exposed the Watergate incident. These are all familiar stories. In this era when all the people are media people and can disclose information, perhaps some incidents such as fake oil, Food safety and other issues media play their supervisory responsibilities.

However, today's Taiwan only sees negative and unbalanced reports and comments, and positive news is rare. Everyone only focuses on winning over their own minority audience, ignoring the overall interests of society. Government officials and certain policies are worthy of criticism and review, but malicious accusations made three meals a day are stupid. Finally, everyone in Taiwan seems to have lost their minds. No wonder some people say that Taiwan's media is one of the three sources of social chaos.

In addition, the era of new media on the Internet has come, and people can use the Internet to get more instant information, but the in-depth and textual reports are decreasing. Lin Shengfen said that the reform started in 1988 actually has to bear a lot of responsibility. A series of educational reform measures, whether laws, teachers, curriculum, teaching, textbooks, finance, etc., all have significant changes, which can be called the most dramatic stage in Taiwan's educational history. Since the reform involves a wide range of aspects, it has been widely discussed by various sectors of the community, and due to many controversies, the implementation of various sectors has given different evaluations.

One of the most controversial points is that the reform system is rigid and unable to meet social requirements. In particular, the pressure on students to enter higher education cannot be relieved: parents and students will still try to compete in order to get into ideal schools. The unhealthy trend of cram schools still exists. Some parents even send their children to various talent classes because they want to make them stand out in the second round of the examination. Besides the original schoolwork, students have a lot of burden, and the pressure on students to enter higher education increases instead of decreasing. In the long run, Taiwan's media and culture will move into an empty whirlpool by cultivating rigid talents who can only "take exams,""do not eat fireworks,""have little knowledge,""lack humanistic literacy" and "do not think."

economically speaking, taiwan cannot avoid being caught up in the tide of globalization. hollowing out of industry, moving out of taiwan, replacing labor with technology, coupled with the magnetic attraction effect of the mainland, the transformation from dependence to competition, and the issue of "money" interests, such as advertising costs and management costs, are all key factors that make it increasingly difficult for the media to survive.

Therefore, TV stations must rely on ratings, news must be consistent with the color of the color to attract a large audience, Taiwan's cultural literacy, media management interests, overall globalization and other structural problems, all make the media chaos has become an unsolvable problem.

Lin Shengfen, chairman of China Television Corporation, believes that the role of the government is very important, and the media's failure, incompetence and inaction also depend on the self-discipline of the media and the self-awareness of the audience. Taiwan still has the advantage of refinement, but it still depends on the efforts and integration of all the people, including the government.

Hu Shi once said: "Tolerance is more important than freedom." In the name of freedom of the press, Taiwan's media actually "make news", and the benefits brought by ratings replace the truth of the news. Finally, Lin Shengfen suggested that the government should take appropriate measures to supervise the media and let the media shoulder their journalistic responsibilities.
