Wild celery is not celery. The Chinese scientific name of wild celery is hemlock, also known as pulsatilla, poisonous ginseng, celery leaf hook kiss, spot hemlock, walking horse parsley, etc., which is a perennial herb of the genus Umbelliferae, distributed in the north temperate zone. China is distributed in the northeast, northwest, North China marshes waterside or ditch edge, leaves like celery leaves, summer folds, the whole plant has a stench.

Wild celery is 70-100 cm tall, the main root is shortened, the branched roots are numerous, fleshy or fibrous, the rhizome is segmented, with diaphragm, brown. Stem erect solitary, cylindrical, hollow striated, sometimes lavender at base, branched above, branches rising and spreading. The leaf sheath is membranous, the leaf blade is triangular or triangular-lanceolate in outline, the lobes are linear-lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, the upper cauline leaves have short stalks, the leaf leaves are divided like basal leaves, the ultimate segments are narrowly lanceolate, and the margin is sparsely serrate.

Compound umbels of wild celery terminal or axillary, involucral bracts usually absent or with 1 linear bract, involucral bracts numerous, linear-lanceolate. Umbellules have flowers 15-35 and stalks 4-7 mm long. Calyx teeth conspicuous, ovate triangular. Petals white, Obovate or suborbicular, apical with inflexed ligule, filaments ca. 2.5 mm, anthers subovoid, style base compressed when young, style short, reflexed outward. The meristem is subovoid, the commissure is contracted, the main rim is broad, corky, and the ventral surface of the endosperm is retuse. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to August.

Wild celery is born under trees, wetlands or ditches at an altitude of 400 to 2900 meters above sea level. it is distributed in the far East of the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. China produces Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, * and other provinces and regions. Jiangsu Xinghua has been cultivated in the history.

Wild celery is one of the highly toxic plants, and its toxic ingredient apigenin is a neutral resin-like substance, which is easy to dissolve in alcohol and alkaline solution, mainly in roots and other parts. Poisonous apigenin is easily absorbed and poisoned within a few minutes of human consumption. The lips are often blistered (and even blood blisters). The main toxicity is in the central nervous system and has a very significant spasmodic effect. after poisoning, there were dizziness, vomiting, spasms, red skin, bluish complexion, paralysis and died of respiratory failure. The toxic dose of human was 30mg to 60mg and the lethal dose was 120mg to 150mg.
