Balsam pear planting time is generally in March, some first raise seedlings in the greenhouse or greenhouse, and then transplant, can be sown in February in advance. In the north, the seedlings were sowed in greenhouses or greenhouses from late March to early April and planted in early May, sowed in mid-March and planted in mid-April in the Yangtze River Basin, sowed from January to March in South China, sowed from April to May in summer, and sowed from July to August in autumn. If protective facilities are used, they can also be cultivated in winter.

The planting time of balsam pear is determined by the growing environment of balsam pear, especially the influence of temperature. the following editor will introduce the planting environment requirements of balsam pear.

Soil demand

Pot soil with pastoral soil mixed with appropriate amount of lime and mature pig manure, superphosphate, plant ash and so on. Can be directly pot sowing cultivation, can also move seedlings on the basin, with a thin bamboo pole to build a support to let it climb. In the courtyard, it is often planted next to the sunny scaffolding, usually 40 to 50 centimeters apart. Cultivate with fertile and nutritious soil, 2 to 3 cm above the ground, often keeping the soil moist.

Temperature requirement

The temperature requirements of balsam pear were different in different development stages, the optimum temperature for seed germination was 30 ℃ to 35 ℃, the optimum temperature for seedling growth was 20 ℃ to 25 ℃, the growth was slow below 15 ℃, and the growth was poor below 10 ℃. The optimum temperature for flowering and fruiting was 20 ℃ to 30 ℃, and the fruit setting rate was high and fruit developed rapidly at 25 ℃ to 30 ℃. In the later growth stage, the fruit could bear melon normally when the night temperature was 10 ℃ and the daytime temperature was 15 ℃ to 20 ℃.

Light condition

Balsam pear does not have strict requirements for light length, but lack of light at seedling stage will reduce cold resistance and disease resistance, and stems and leaves are easy to grow. During the flowering and fruiting stage, sufficient light is beneficial to the improvement of stem and leaf growth and fruit setting rate, and the fruit development is also fast.

Water and fertilizer management

Balsam pear should have an adequate water supply, especially in the flowering and fruiting period, which requires more water, and avoid water shortage and stagnant water for a long time. Balsam pear has strong fertility tolerance and avoid water stains, so it should be cultivated in sandy loam or clay loam with good drainage and deep soil layer. The base fertilizer is mainly rotten organic fertilizer, and topdressing is mainly mature human and animal feces and urine, which is applied once a week. The seedling fertilizer should be applied thinly and enter the flowering and fruiting stage, and the concentration can be increased. After the full fruiting stage, potash fertilizer or compound fertilizer should be applied once or twice to prolong the time of flowering and fruiting.
