(Taiwan Business News) The media is a link in social education, and it is also a channel for people to understand government public policy. However, judging from the current social chaos, the current low quality of the media affects the audience's thinking and perception, and the distorted media culture creates abnormal political phenomena, which further deteriorates the original function of conveying the truth!

the hung chun pei cultural foundation and taiwan daily newspaper invited legislative yuan vice premier hung hsiu chu to give a public lecture on "the impact of current media culture on national society" at dr. sun yat-sen's memorial hall last saturday. vice premier hung believes that the media is a very important part of social education, and taiwan lives in a generation dominated by the media, so its impact on national society is self-evident. this is why hung hsiu chu shares her experience as a public figure and personally participating in national affairs with the public.

Hong Xiuzhu, Vice President of the Legislative Yuan: The Impact of Current Media Culture on National Society

The transformation of Taiwan's media is something to be proud of, proud of, but also regrettable and disappointing. Not only has there been more negative news coverage, but there has also been a marked increase in reporting on culture and privacy. Ang Lee once said that during the filming of "Youth PI","watching TV every night feels that Taiwan will be finished in three months!" When I watch Taiwanese TV at night, all I see are tears and internal friction. I feel very deeply."

hung hsiu chu, vice president of the legislative yuan, even published a special article in foreign policy, a highly prestigious professional journal in the united states, criticizing: "taiwan media abuse press freedom, sensationalism, kitsch, and are extremely rotten and rubbish, turning the audience into zombies." The article also criticized that "many famous people in Taiwan use extremely dirty and obscene words." the article concludes: "unless the consumer habits of the audience change, taiwan's next generation will have to continue to endure the 'tired bombardment of brainless news'." to comment." This is the harshest term used by foreign media to criticize Taiwan's media; of course, we know better ourselves that it is only the tip of the iceberg; but this is enough for everyone to use self-criticism.

hung hsiu chu, vice premier of the legislative yuan, says that the media's original goal in reporting news is to convey information to the public from a fair and objective point of view. whether it is concern for society or analysis of the hidden meaning behind events, it must have a certain function of awakening the public. But now it is full of many reports with "color", some news that should not be broadcast by the media is forcibly "made","fried", and presented in front of the public,"it is difficult not to have a negative impact on the public".

Vice Premier Hong said that from the government's point of view, the media should have the function of "reflecting public opinion" and "supervising the fourth power of the government." It is not a mouthpiece of the government. Instead, it should present government policies truthfully and comprehensively, form extensive discussions, criticize them appropriately at appropriate times, and play an active moral role in leading the fields of politics, consumption, and people's livelihood.

But nowadays, more and more media are political in nature, have a clear stand, and "create news" for ratings, readership, or to achieve certain goals. In addition, the media often use the name of "freedom of the press" to ignore the privacy rights of others. Whenever they get an opportunity, whether it is true or false, they will report wantonly, causing the parties to be hurt twice or even three times under the media trial. According to various phenomena, the media has neglected its responsibility to society.

Hong Xiuzhu, vice president of the Legislative Yuan, said that when domestic media reported relevant information about Congress, most of them focused on the "brilliance" and "follow-up development" of specific events as hot topics, ignoring the fact that they should also often report on the attendance rate of members of Congress and the bills proposed by members of Congress. More importantly, the media also had the responsibility to tell the people how different the contents of different bills would have different effects. Unfortunately, media workers often spoil legislators 'appetites, because if they don't make a show and gossip, they can't be reported. Vice President Hong even joked that "this is the Congress under the camera."

When it comes to unbalanced reporting, this is linked to the quality of the audience. In addition to red news, the public has long been overly enthusiastic about politics and idolatry of political figures, which is easily manipulated by media with different positions; green cannot see blue good, blue always says green bad, which also allows media reports to profit from different political positions as long as they focus on the basic disk.

Under this premise, the perception of the Chinese people is not good, and the representativeness of public opinion is also deeply threatened. The social fallacy of "high exposure means doing something" has formed. What is more serious is that many talents regard entering the cabinet as a fear, which is a considerable worry for Taiwan. Hong Xiuzhu pointed out that Shi Zhenrong, founder of Acer Group, once said that administrative officials were stupid by the media and should give space to the ruling team, otherwise all stakeholders, including the media, would lose.

Under such chaos, the impact on governance: policies to please the people, not based on the long-term future; cross-strait policy irrational discussion space, and differences in national identity, the victims are the broad masses of people. Finally, Vice Premier Hong quoted the words of Tzu Chi founder Cheng Yen: Taiwan has many stories of truth, goodness and beauty, but the media are unwilling to report them. If the media reports stir people's hearts, they will have a negative effect. The media should bear a lot of responsibility. "the media only focuses on superficial phenomena, creating a false image of society as a whole, causing people to gradually lose trust in taiwan and society. The media should report the truth and guide the truth, and use the power of the media in the right place to open people's eyes. This is the blessing of the world."

Media reports are biased and always create a negative image of the government. However, whether the legislative quality of the government or Congress can effectively respond to the needs of the majority of the people is also a problem that must be considered. Only by appropriately adjusting the size of Congress seats and eliminating the nature of show, and by using the supervision power of the media to do a good job in evaluating the performance of Congress members, is the root of solving the problem.

hung hsiu chu, vice president of the legislative yuan, also hopes to stimulate the media's self-examination through audience awareness. It is hoped that the policy content can be fully reported on issues of public concern, and the impact on Taiwan will be analyzed, and the focus will not be on gossip and other dirty news; in addition, the reform of national education, especially the humanities literacy, will reduce the possibility of "media ignorance", and have their own judgment and thinking, and will not follow the media.
