Li Xuan says that there is an inflammatory reaction in the body every day, which is defined as "red, swollen, hot, and painful." because the body attempts to repair tissue damage, its main task is to remove broken old tissue and regenerate intact new tissue. When the tissue is injured, the blood circulation begins to flourish, bringing white blood cells to the injured tissue, activating phagocytes, dissolving the broken tissue, and adding intact tissue.

The joint is the place where the bones are adjacent and movable, and it is divided into immovable joints, immobile joints and movable joints. For example, the skull is composed of five immovable bones, which are usually immovable and are called immovable joints. The sternoclavicular joint between the clavicle and sternum is a less active joint; the hip and knee joints that are often active are movable joints.

Cartilage is mainly composed of chondrocytes, cartilage and water. Healthy cartilage should be elastic and smooth. Cartilage also contains collagen, glucosamine, collagen is easy to obtain in general food; glucosamine is an important angle to help cartilage retain water, but food can only be absorbed from animal cartilage.

Li Xuan said that the causes of arthritis include aging, overuse, overloading of ligaments, congenital cartilage dystrophy, malnutrition, joint infection and poor joint internal environment, etc., reducing these risk factors for worn cartilage can reduce the risk of arthritis. Take the most common degenerative arthritis as an example. Li Xuan explains that cartilage quality becomes less elastic with age, and the growth rate slows down, resulting in thinner cartilage thickness, coupled with overuse of joints, or overweight or carrying heavy loads on joints, which will accelerate the emergence of arthritis.

To treat arthritis, Li Xuan says, eat a balanced diet, supplement the glucosamine needed to make cartilage, and exercise moderately. Glucosamine is rare in the general diet and can only be obtained from animal cartilage such as pig ears, and the human body will synthesize glucose and amino acids on its own. The ingredients of health foods sold in the market are more or less the same, mostly extracting chitin from crustaceans; recently, glucosamine has been added to milk powder to supplement calcium and avoid osteoporosis. It should be noted, however, that food is not effective, and glucosamine supplementation does not treat arthritis. Moderate exercise can stimulate chondrocytes to produce cartilage, activate blood circulation near the joint to provide nutrition, strengthen nearby muscles, help joint stability, but also help to improve cardiopulmonary function and metabolism.

In addition, slowing down the wear rate of cartilage is also the way for people to maintain. Controlling weight, adjusting the pace of movement, improving joint stability, controlling pathological factors harmful to cartilage, and surgical treatment are all ways to reduce joint wear. For a period of activity, you must rest for a period of time, or alternately carry out heavy and light work to avoid overuse of joints. For joints that have been injured, active treatment or muscle strength training should be carried out, and protective gear can also be used to protect joints during exercise.

Li Xuan stressed that many patients have the problem of being overweight or even obese, which is the biggest killer of knee joints, while women's limited natural cartilage materials are no better than men's, coupled with the lack of hormones after menopause, it is easy to cause articular cartilage wear and tear. In general, if cartilage wear is mild, doctors may inject hyaluronic acid into the joint as a lubricant; in severe cases, artificial knee arthroplasty is recommended, with a current success rate of more than 99%. Can be used for 10 to 12 years or more.
