Balsam pear is a cultivated species of 1-year-old climbing herbs of Cucurbitaceae, also known as cool gourd and toad grape. Originated in tropical Asia, it is a temperature-loving and heat-resistant vegetable with a temperature of about 30 ℃ for seed germination. Balsam pear seed skin is thick and hard, water permeability is poor, so seed germination is more difficult, planting for the whole seedling strong, artificial germination should be carried out. The method of accelerating germination of balsam pear seeds mainly includes the following steps:

Wash the seeds thoroughly with clean water and soak the seeds for 12-16 hours.

Take a small bite at the hilum to facilitate the absorption of water and the exposure of radicles (commonly known as buds) when the seeds germinate. Note that no matter what measures are taken to take small mouthfuls at the hilum, the internal kernels should not be hurt.

Wrap the seeds in a clean wet towel and germinate at a temperature of about 30 ℃. After 2-3 days, the radicle will be exposed. Before budding, wash the towels and seeds thoroughly with clean water every day to keep the seeds clean.

The germinated seeds can be sown. Due to the inconsistency of germination among individual seeds, the first-germinated seeds can be picked out and stored in a cold room wrapped in a clean wet towel in the refrigerator if possible, and the vast majority of seeds can be sown together after germination.
