Tongcao, also known as Cote, Li Nan, Huo Yi, Yi Shang, Tong Tuo, onion grass, Baitong grass, etc., is the stem pith of deciduous woody vines of the Akebia family. It is a common traditional Chinese medicine. It has the effect of clearing heat and diuresis and ventilating milk. It is very adaptable and can be cultivated in all provinces and regions south of the Yangtze River. Let's take a look at the planting techniques of Tongcao.

The growth habit of Tongcao

Tongcao likes light and warmth, grows well in moist and fertile soil, has strong lateral growth ability of roots, and can form a large number of root tillers, not very cold-resistant, and the overwintering temperature is above 5 ℃. It is suitable for cultivation in fertile sandy loam, often growing in grass under low-altitude hillside forests, growing well in slightly acidic and humus yellow soil, and adapting to neutral soil. Stems often grow on creeping ground. Produced in Jiangsu, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.

The Propagation Technology of Tongcao

1. Land selection and land preparation: grass cultivation land should choose miscellaneous wood forest with convenient irrigation and good drainage, secondary forest mountain valley, gentle slope, slope not more than 10-15 degrees, fertile brown forest soil, sandy soil, soil preparation before sowing.

2. Sowing and propagation: grass is propagated with seeds, and the suitable planting time is from April to October. When the sun is inclined in cloudy and rainy days or sunny afternoons, the row spacing is 20: 25 cm. The plant spacing can be determined according to the fertility of the soil, the thickness of management, and the difficulty of drainage and irrigation. After sowing seeds in the ditch, cover the soil 2 cm and 3 cm to suppress.

Planting management of Tongcao

1. Field management: keep the soil moist after sowing, and pay attention to drainage during the seedling growth period. After the seedlings are unearthed, the cover weeds should be removed in time, and weeds and seedlings should be removed. After the first true leaf is fully unfolded, the seedlings are fixed according to the plant spacing of 6 cm. Seedling height of more than 30 cm should be tower support vine, take artificial frame can be a variety of branches into a fence support, can use small trees or shrubs, such as Vitex mandshurica, edamame beans and so on. Farm manure was applied 2 or 3 times a year during the growing period.

2. Pest control: there are few diseases during the growth period, mainly insect pests. Aristolochia mandshurica larvae bite leaves and stems from July to September and are sprayed with 500-800 times of 90% trichlorfon. Aphids are harmful to leaves and are sprayed with 2000 times of dimethoate emulsion.

3. Harvest and leave seeds: cut the base of the grass in autumn and winter, remove the head, tail and young branches, scrape off the rough skin of the wooden column, dry it, straighten the rattan stem in the drying process, tie it up according to the diameter and thickness, and then continue to dry. Leave seeds to select large, full, pest-free seeds.
