Dendrobium officinale is also known as Dendrobium officinale, Cymbidium tibetanum, Lishucao, etc., Yunnan commonly known as black knot grass. China's distribution in the Qinling Mountains, Huainan south of Anhui, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other mountainous areas, mainly grown in the mountains and cliffs in the above areas and rock crevices. Due to the particularity of Dendrobium officinale growth conditions and distribution limitations, and after long-term mining, natural resources are on the verge of exhaustion, domestic market supply shortage, so its planting environment has more stringent requirements.

Production of Dendrobium officinale seedlings

Healthy broad-leaf red stem Dendrobium officinale with good growth characteristics was collected from the field as a provenance and carefully maintained. Artificial pollination is carried out in the flowering season of Dendrobium officinale to obtain authentic fruit pods of Dendrobium officinale. After the seeds are mature, sowing is carried out to form a dendrobium officinale mother bottle, and healthy and authentic dendrobium officinale mother bottles are obtained through the following steps of: transferring to strong seedling to rooting.

Dendrobium officinale environmental conditions

Dendrobium officinale has strict requirements on environment, and selecting suitable environment is half of successful cultivation. Dendrobium officinale should be planted in a humid and cool environment at an altitude of 800~1600 meters. The suitable temperature for growth is 15~30℃, the growth period is more suitable at 16~21℃, the night temperature is 10~13℃, the temperature difference between day and night is 10~15℃, and the best frost-free period is 250~300 days. Annual rainfall is more than 1000 mm. Seedlings are easily frozen below 10℃, and Dendrobium officinale generally begins to defoliate below 5℃. The relative humidity of Dendrobium officinale is about 80%. It is better to avoid dryness and ponding, especially when the new buds begin to germinate and the new roots are formed. It is suitable to shade 70% in summer and autumn and 30~50% in winter. The stem will expand and be yellow, the leaves will be yellow-green, and the growth will be slow or stop.

Conditions of facilities for Dendrobium officinale

Dendrobium officinale needs to be planted in facility environment due to its high environmental requirements. Simple bamboo frame greenhouses and steel frame greenhouses can be built, but must ensure good ventilation in the shed, and equipped with internal and external shading nets. If funds are abundant and Dendrobium officinale is cultivated for a long time, steel frame greenhouses can be considered for long service life and low repair rate. Plastic film according to the capital, insulation, service life, choose 12 to 15 wires can be.

1. Field planting: The soil required in the shed is fully dried in the sun, and the pesticide treatment is done with octyl sulfuric acid to kill the pests and eggs remaining in the soil. in that shed, brick or stones are use to build a seedbed with the height of 15 - 20 cm and the width of 1 - 1.5 m, the length depends on the terrain, a layer of gravel with the thickness of 5 - 10 cm and other materials with good water permeability is laid, and finally a layer of fermented bark or sawdust, coconut shell, bagasse, decomposed fallen leaves or moss with the thickness of 10 - 12 cm is laid as a cultivation substrate, and a channel with the width of 40 - 50 cm is reserved between the seedbed and the seedbed for daily cultivation operation.

2, bed planting: can be built according to the funding situation about 1.2~1.5 meters high bamboo or steel frame seedbed, seedbed equipped with 40~50 cm wide channel for daily cultivation operation, can also build steel activity seedbed, bed width and height and fixed seedbed similar, but only need to leave a channel to increase the utilization rate in the shed. A layer of fermented bark, wood chips, sawdust, coconut shells, bagasse, decomposed leaves or moss of 10~12 cm is laid on the bottom of the seedbed as a cultivation substrate.

Conclusion: Dendrobium officinale is recommended for bed cultivation, because bed cultivation has better water permeability than ground cultivation, and it has the advantages of not allowing water to cause root rot of Dendrobium officinale in seedbed, reducing snails, slugs, cutworms and other ground pests, which is conducive to the healthy growth of Dendrobium officinale. If long-term cultivation is considered, the selection of cultivation medium is very important. The accumulated fermented bark, broken wood and sawdust have good corrosion resistance, better air permeability than moss, sucrose residue and rotten leaves, and are always in a semi-decomposed state. They are more suitable for Dendrobium officinale cultivation and are ideal cultivation substrates.
