Chicken lice is a common parasite on the body surface of poultry, which mainly lives on the feathers and skin of chickens. Chicken lice is a permanent parasite, the whole life history is in the chicken body. The life span of feather lice in chickens can be as long as several months, but it can only survive for 5-7 days after leaving, so the development cycle of chicken lice is 3-4 weeks. It is also one of the most common in vitro parasites of poultry; about the size of sesame seeds, it has 6 legs like his insects, and there are more than 20 species; it can occur all year round, especially in autumn, when the temperature reaches 25 ℃, it can reproduce every 6 days; people, livestock and birds (especially laying hens and breeder chickens in chicken farms where chickens have been raised for many years) are easily infected with lice. The main parasites on chickens are chicken body lice, head lice, feather lice and so on. Some of them feed on feathers and dandruff, while others bite the skin and absorb blood, affecting the growth, development and production performance of chickens. In the light cases, the growth of the hens is blocked, and the laying of laying hens is reduced or stopped completely; in the severe cases, the crown is pale, resulting in anemia and death due to excessive blood loss.

Symptoms of chicken lice

Sick chickens are itchy and restless, often pecking their own feathers and flesh, resulting in feather loss, skin damage, loss of appetite and gradual weight loss and anemia, mental malaise, lack of nutrition, and then anemia symptoms and even death. The growth of chicken lice in chicks will affect the growth and development, while the laying rate of laying hens will decrease.

Pathogen characteristics of chicken lice

Chicken lice are permanent parasites that survive and breed among the feathers of chickens and do not leave the chicken body voluntarily. When the female lice lays eggs, it secretes mucus, sticks the clustered eggs to the base of the feather and hatches the larvae after 5-10 days. The shape of the larva is similar to that of the adult. after 2-3 weeks, the larva molts 3-5 times to develop into an adult, that is, it can lay eggs, and its life span is several months. Chicken lice can lay eggs and reproduce all the year round, especially in winter. Under suitable conditions, the offspring of a pair of chicken lice can reach more than 100000 from pre-winter to the beginning of spring. When chickens give birth to lice, they often shake their feathers due to pain and itching, which will scatter some chicken lice into the feathers of other chickens, and may also be brought to other flocks by certain media (human soles, small animals, etc.) and infect other flocks. Without these opportunities, chicken lice will die after a few days due to lack of food on the ground, bedding, chicken droppings, and so on.

Control methods of chicken lice

The most common way to kill lice in chickens is spray, followed by medicine bath. As the whole body of chickens should be sprayed or soaked with liquid medicine, it is necessary to choose low-toxic and safe drugs. Natural pyrethroid is safe, but the price is high. At present, synthetic pyrethroid, such as cypermethrin, is mainly used, its efficacy is better than natural pyrethroid, and its safety is better when used correctly, and because of its high efficacy, chicken lice can be completely eliminated at one time; if the situation is serious, the drug can be used again after 10 days. Deltamethrin and fenvalerate also have a certain effect on killing chicken lice, but because they have been used for many years, drug resistance has generally developed throughout the country, and the effect is not very ideal; organophosphorus insecticides, such as trichlorfon, dichlorvos, and so on, chickens are very sensitive and easy to be poisoned. and not easy to completely kill, need to be used frequently, easy to produce drug resistance, so it is not suitable to use.

Recommended drugs for chicken lice

It is one of the few insecticides on the market that can directly spray and kill poultry (chickens, breeder chickens). It can remove parasites on the body surface of poultry at once! And has the function of supple and clean poultry feathers!

1: the formula is unique.

2: good adhesion.

3: broad spectrum, high efficiency, low toxicity, human and poultry safety.

4: easy to use 5: no drug residue problem.

Add 5 grams of detergent per bottle of 200ml with 4 kg of water, spray directly on the chicken-spray against feathers with an ordinary sprayer, spray feathers all over the chicken to slightly wet, and fully apply to the surrounding environment-ground, cages, nets, etc. (2 kg per bottle of 200ml mixed with water) to ensure complete elimination of insect pests; spray again every 10 days to eliminate newly hatched lice Pay attention to avoid food trough and drinking fountain when applying pesticide, and young birds should be used with caution.

Using the above method: generally, there can be no chicken lice for one year, if there are many mosquitoes and flies in the chicken house in summer, at the same time, the chicken house can be kept free of flies for more than 20 days and free of mosquitoes, midges, gnats and other external parasites for about 15 days.
