Duck cholera, also known as duck abortion, is a contagious disease caused by Pasteurella multocida. Clinically, it is more common in young domestic ducks and laying ducks over three months of age. It is characterized by acute onset, rapid death, green loose feces, serosa and mucosa with small bleeding spots, liver covered with needle-sized gray-white necrosis foci, which is a serious infectious disease endangering duck farming. Let's take a look at the prevention and treatment of duck cholera together.

Symptoms of duck cholera

1. Acute type: high body temperature, decreased appetite, increased mouth and nose secretions causing dyspnea, shaking head attempting to throw out throat mucus, diarrhea.

2. Chronic type: often manifested as chronic arthritis, pneumonia, air sacculitis, etc., this case is clinically rare.

Epidemiology of Duck Cholera

1. Susceptible age: ducks of all ages and breeds are susceptible to this disease, laying ducks are the most susceptible.

2. Infection route: mainly through digestive tract and respiratory tract infection.

3. Epidemic form: After infection with virulent strains, most of them are septic, acute onset, high mortality, up to 30~40%, slower course after infection with less virulent strains, low mortality, often sporadic.

4. The environmental stress factors such as water and feed cut off, sudden change of feed, mutation of atmosphere and overfeeding density can increase the susceptibility of duck cholera.

Preventive measures against duck cholera

1. Eliminating the storage host of Pasteurella multocida (sick poultry or recovered poultry still carrying bacteria), improving sanitary conditions and reducing stress can effectively prevent duck cholera.

2. In duck cholera epidemic areas, immunization should be considered. Vaccines available include capsule subunit vaccine of avian cholera, attenuated vaccine of avian cholera, inactivated vaccine of avian cholera, etc. The serotype type of local avian Pasteurella multocida should be considered when selecting the latter two vaccines.

Treatment of duck cholera

1. During the feeding period of medium and large ducks, 20 mg of hexanol per kilogram of body weight is mixed with feed every week for 2~3 days, or 2% andrographis paniculata powder is mixed with feed every week for 2~3 days, which has preventive and therapeutic effects.

2, Qing, streptomycin mixed intramuscular injection, according to each kilogram of weight 50,000 units, twice a day, for 2 days.

3. Iodoaminothiazole, sulfamethazine, sulfamethoxine, etc. were mixed into the feed according to 0.05 ~0.1% and fed continuously for 5 days.

4. Antibacterial net: 30 mg per kilogram of body weight, double for the first time, for 5 days.

5. Chinese herbal medicine

① Andrographis paniculata, goldenrod 160g each, scutellaria baicalensis, ground gall head 80g each, mixed with powder or decocted in water, can be taken by 100 big ducks once a day for 3 days.

(2) Andrographis paniculata, Isatis root 80g each, dandelion 60g each, mixed with powder or decocted in water, can be taken by 100 ducks once a day for 3 days.
