Generally, the male duck has a large head, narrow nostrils, linear along the beak, round body and pointed tail, while the female duck has a small head, slightly rounded nostrils, flat body and scattered tail.

The syrinx, also known as the lower larynx, is located at the top of the bifurcated trachea. The male duck has an enlarged spherical tympanic cavity here, 3~4 mm in diameter, which can be felt from the chest outside the body. The female duck does not have this sounding tube.

Hold the duckling with your left hand so that its back is facing upward and its abdomen is facing downward. Gently clamp the neck with your thumb and forefinger. Gently lift the anus below with your right thumb and forefinger. Press forward first. With the backward movement, if you feel something protruding the size of hemp or rapeseed, it is a male duckling, otherwise it is a female duckling.

Hold the duckling in your left hand, clamp the neck of the duck with your middle finger and ring finger, head out, belly up, into a supine posture. Then use the thumb and forefinger of the right hand to separate the feathers next to the anus and squeeze out the meconium. Gently open the anus and turn it inside out. Male ducklings can see about 4 mm long protrusions (penis), female ducks are not, or only residue marks.
