The male and female geese selected for breeding are called back-up geese. The selection and breeding of back-up geese are related to whether the quality of the whole goose can be improved and the breeding eggs with high yield and high quality can be obtained.

Select and retain goose species

Strong male and female geese with good growth and development and in line with the characteristics of this breed are selected for breeding. Geese with mixed coat color, flat head, crooked tail, drooping wings, lameness, blind eyes and weak disease must be strictly eliminated and must not be reserved for breeding. The ratio of male to female is 1: 1 and 4: 6.

Strengthen feeding

Although the growth rate of reserve breeder geese is significantly slower, it is still in the period of growth and development and moulting, and certain nutrients are needed to meet its needs. therefore, rough feeding should not be carried out prematurely, and only after a period of house feeding to the completion of the second molting can it be gradually transferred from concentrate to roughage, which can be divided into three stages:

1. In the early stage (about 1-1.5 months): the newly selected breeding geese should be trained to be gregarious, and house feeding should be combined with grazing. According to the grass quality of the pasture and the fat condition of the geese, the daily feed should be 50g / 100g, the male geese should be fed more, and the feed should be mainly formulated and supplemented with green feed.

2. In the middle stage (about 2-3 months): in order to release the herdsmen, the whole house feeding period should be based on roughage, fed three times a day and irrationally. The main feeds are shrunken grain, rice bran, wheat bran, corn straw powder, soybean leaf powder, sugar beet leaf powder, sunflower plate powder, leaf powder and jade flour, barnyard seeds, weed seeds and so on. Male geese usually begin rough feeding when they are about 140 days old.

3. In the later stage (1-2 months): gradually increase concentrate, reduce coarse feed, feed concentrate 2-3 times a day, diversify feed mix, and pay attention to supplement mineral and vitamin feed to let geese eat freely, so as to promote female geese to lay eggs quickly and produce more eggs.

Careful management

The goose house should be spacious and bright, clean the trough and sink and change the bedding material every day to keep the bedding grass and the house dry. Keep the goose house quiet, hygienic, good environment, strictly prevent cold and damp, and pay special attention to the heat preservation of the goose house in winter. The goose was vaccinated against Gosling plague one month before giving birth, and attention should be paid to the daily disease prevention of breeding geese.
