Health sand is mineral feed, containing essential minerals for pigeons, used to supplement the lack of minerals in the diet, today we simply introduce some of the main ingredients of health sand and its role and how to prepare and use health sand.

Main ingredients and their functions

1. Oyster shell slices. This is made of oyster shell by grinding machine, diameter of 0, 5~0, 8 cm, that is, such as pea section size. Some people will oyster shell processing into powder, pigeons do not like to eat, flaky oyster shell on pigeon muscle stomach digestive function to help. According to the information, oyster shell tablets contain the ingredients are. Calcium 38, 1%, phosphorus 0, 07%, magnesium 0, 3%, potassium 0, 1%, iron 0, 29%, chlorine 0, 01%. Rich calcium is the main source of calcium in health sand, which can promote the normal growth and development of the body, prevent pigeon cartilage disease and soft shell eggs. In addition, it is also related to enzyme metabolism and the formation of coagulation factors.

2. Bone meal. It is made of animal bones after high temperature disinfection and crushing. Its ingredients are. Calcium 30, 7%, phosphorus 12, 8%, sodium 5, 69%, magnesium 0, 33%, potassium 0, 19%, sulfur 2, 51%, iron 2, 67%, copper 1, 15%, zinc 1, 3%, chlorine 0, 01%, fluorine 0, 05%, etc. It is the main source of calcium, phosphorus and iron, and it is a raw material with high phosphorus content. Calcium and phosphorus in the body is interdependent, both according to a certain proportion of absorption, in order to form a hard and tough skeleton in the body, phosphorus deficiency, bone brittle, easy to break. Therefore, bone meal can prevent young pigeons from stunting, bone deformation and cartilage disease, and prevent hens from laying soft shell eggs, thin shell eggs and sand shell eggs. Iron in bone meal has a good effect on the formation of hemoglobin and the prevention of anemia. When purchasing bone meal, attention should be paid to raw animal bone meal without cooking and disinfection, bone meal used in fertilizer fields and bone meal ground from processing plants, often with pathogens and impurities, which cannot be used as ingredients, otherwise it is easy to cause pigeon disease.

3. Egg shell powder. Lack of oyster shell or bone meal use, but also suitable for a small number of pigeon fanciers, when the first fried egg shell, and then crushed can be used. Main ingredients. Calcium 34, 8%, phosphorus 2, 3%, the effect is similar to the above two.

4, lime (or limestone): its role is to supplement calcium and a small amount of trace elements. The alkalinity of hydrated lime is strong, and the dosage should not be too much, generally about 5%.

5. Chen Gypsum. Users are not many, the dosage is generally about 5%, containing more calcium, its role is to supplement calcium and other needs, cool detoxification. According to the information, gypsum also has a good promotion effect on pigeons in August-October molting, and during this period, it can be properly distributed in health sand.

6. Coarse sand. It is best to come from the sand of the river. After recovery, it is properly screened, small particles and large particles are discarded, medium particles are selected, washed with water, dried in the sun for 2~3 days, and then bagged for later use. The main function of sand is to help the muscle stomach to mechanically digest the feed, and to grind the particles eaten under the pressure of the muscle stomach to facilitate digestion and absorption of the intestinal tract. Sand in the stomach muscle will also be slowly crushed, which part of the trace elements used by the body. No sand in the health sand is easy to cause pigeon indigestion, which will reduce the utilization rate of feed.

7. Stone rice. People like to use it instead of sand. It has been proved by some pigeon farms that stone rice is superior to sand. The reason is that in addition to the role of sand, stone rice also has more sources, uniform size, clean and easy to use, and does not contain impurities. Stone rice is harder than sand and is not easy to grind in the stomach, but there is no need to worry about eating more will accumulate in the stomach, pigeons themselves can peck at the right amount of stone rice according to needs, and can regulate and digest part of the finer stone rice from the feces. In addition, the pressure and acidity of pigeon muscle stomach is very large, it is enough to grind or crush stone rice in a few days and discharge.

8. Yellow mud. Some people call it red soil or loess, which can be dug everywhere, but attention should be paid to digging deep yellow mud, which does not contain bacteria and impurities. The yellow mud is dug out and dried in the sun, and then packed into bags for later use. Yellow mud contains iron, zinc, cobalt, manganese, selenium and other trace elements, its role is as a raw material for health sand and provide a small amount of trace elements. As there are macro elements or trace elements in the existing health care sand, yellow mud is rarely or not used in the existing health care sand formulation.

9, charcoal powder. Wood ash surface has a strong adsorption effect, can adsorb harmful gases produced by intestinal tract, remove harmful chemicals and bacteria and other pathogens, as well as convergence and diarrhea. It can adhere to the digestive tract mucosa in the intestinal tract to protect the intestinal tract, but on the other hand, it will absorb nutrients and affect the digestion and absorption function of the intestinal tract. Therefore, the dosage should not be too large, generally controlled within 5%. During use, the dosage is best to change constantly, once a week, with a range of 1% to 5%.

10, salt. Coarse-grained sea salt is ideal, mainly chlorine and sodium, but also a small amount of potassium, iodine, magnesium and other elements. Pigeons need salt to replenish the elements they need. In addition, salt also enhances appetite and promotes metabolism. It is an indispensable supplement. However, meat feed technology pigeons have certain limits on the amount of salt, excessive intake will lead to poisoning, the amount of salt is generally 2% to 5%.

11. Red iron oxide. It is actually iron oxide, reddish brown, so it is called red iron oxide. It can be purchased from paint shops, but care should be taken not to contain other substances. The role of red iron oxide is mainly for iron needed in the body, synthesizing hemoglobin and promoting blood circulation. The dosage should not be too much, preferably 0, 5%~1%.

12, commonly used additives.

(1)Auxin. Auxin is a collective term that refers to a collection of nutrients and drugs that directly or indirectly promote animal growth in very small amounts. Domestic and imported auxin contains some different ingredients, different manufacturers also have differences, so, when using should understand its ingredients. In general, auxin is mainly used to supplement the macroelements and trace elements needed for pigeon growth and development, as well as other nutrients. Its dosage generally accounts for 1% to 2% of health sand, and of course it can also be added to feed.

(2)Brown sugar. As a nutritional additive, the main role is to improve energy, supplement body fluids, enhance myocardial strength, but also improve the body osmotic pressure, so that tissue dehydration, diuretic detoxification effect. Brown sugar as an additive to health sand, mainly to improve heat, in cold weather to enhance the pigeon (especially young pigeons) cold ability to prevent frostbite and freezing. If there is no brown sugar, tablet sugar and glucose can be used, and the dosage is generally 2%~3%. Because the health sand is easy to deteriorate and wet after adding sugar, it should be added to the health sand prepared on the same day, that is, ready for use.

formulation and use of

1. Determine the feed intake of pigeons. Carefully determine the amount of health sand pigeons ingest, in order to give a more accurate variety of nutrients and drugs, to avoid shortage or waste. Method of determination. 20 pairs of normal parent pigeons (brooders and non-brooders) were randomly selected. The daily feed intake of each animal can be obtained by averaging for 28 consecutive days. Determination of the amount of health sand can not only be measured for a few days, because the pigeon in the whole brooding period of health sand intake is different, the general intake situation is, the first few days of the baby eat less, gradually increase after 4 days, 1~3 weeks old the most, 3 weeks later slowly reduce, this is because the parent pigeon can adjust their own intake of health sand according to the needs of the growth of young pigeons.

2, the preparation of health sand should pay attention to the problem. In the preparation of health sand, one is to check whether all kinds of ingredients used are pure or not, with or without impurities and mildew deterioration. Second, the ingredients should be mixed from less to more, and stirred many times. Less ingredients such as red iron oxide, auxin, etc., can first take a small amount of health sand mixed evenly, and then mixed into all the health sand. Third, after the preparation of health sand, the use time should not be too long, otherwise it will not be fresh and easy to deliquesce. Generally, the main ingredients of health sand such as oyster shell powder, bone meal, coarse sand, red mud, auxin, etc. are mixed first, and the amount can be used for pigeons to eat for 3 to 4 days, and then the ingredients with less dosage and easy oxidation and deliquescence are mixed together before giving health sand every day. In this way, the quality and function of health sand can be guaranteed.

3, the use of health sand. It is very necessary to master the correct use of health sand, if the use is improper, it will not play the role of health sand. Therefore, it is necessary to master the use of health sand.

(1)Health sand should be prepared now to ensure freshness, to prevent certain substances from being oxidized, decomposed or adversely affected by chemical changes.

(2)Daily should be regular quantitative supply, generally in the morning after feeding to feed health sand. Each time to the amount should also be appropriate, brooding period to more parents, non-brooding period to give less usually 15~20 grams per pair of pigeons.

(3)Once a week, the remaining health sand should be cleaned thoroughly and replaced with new health sand to ensure quality.

4, the formula of health sand should be changed with the needs of the pigeon's state and season, etc., can not be unchanged, in order to meet the actual needs of pigeon production.
