Meat pigeon is also called squab, which refers to the young pigeon within 4 weeks of age. Its characteristics are: large size, rich nutrition, high medicinal value, is an advanced nourishing nutrition. The meat is delicate and delicious, which is the first of all flesh and blood products. According to the determination, squab contains more than 17 kinds of amino acids, the total amount of amino acids is as high as 53.9%, and contains more than 10 kinds of trace elements and vitamins.

The prospect of meat pigeon breeding

Meat pigeon culture has the advantages of short cycle, low cost, fast efficiency and high benefit. It is not only a promising breeding industry, but also a good project to get rich quickly.

The cost of raising meat pigeons is much lower than that of raising broilers. From the egg laying of the female pigeon, after 18 days of incubation, the brooding can be sold in 24 days, and the breeding period is very short. A breeding pigeon consumes 40 grams of food a day, and a lactating pigeon consumes 75 grams of food a day. When the squab is sold from its shell to 30 days old, it consumes a total of 1000ml 1500 grams of grain, and the feed consumption is very economical. In addition, at present, the price of protein feed is high, and the proportion of protein in meat chicken feed is as high as 20%, while that in meat pigeon feed is only 13%. If meat pigeons are raised intensively on a large scale, the feed cost is significantly lower than that of broilers.

The hatching period of pigeons is from 17 to 18 days. Young pigeons are initially fed by pigeon milk in their parents' crop, and then gradually transferred from half-milk and half-grain to soaked grain. Meat pigeons grow very fast, and their weight can reach 500 Mel 700 grams at the age of 25-30 days. Taking the annual production of 6 pairs of breeding pigeons as an example, according to the current purchase price of the foreign trade department, after deducting feed costs, drug fees and management fees, raising a pair of breeding pigeons can make a profit of 100Mel 150 yuan a year. If the squab is selected and bred and sold as a reserve breeding pigeon at the age of 2-5 months, the profit will be even greater.

Problems that should be paid attention to in the development of meat pigeon breeding

1. Breeders must have a basic understanding and understanding of the pigeon market. Squab entering the market has restrictions on age, weight, specifications and commodity standards for carcass and skin color. Domestic and foreign commodity markets require pigeons under 28 days of age, gross weight of more than 550 grams and white carcass.

2. A good breed of pigeon must be selected, first of all, it must be white, and the local market can be taken into account. Silver, gray, red and other breeds must be selected appropriately, but the carcass must be pure white. At present, the better breeds in China are Baiyu King Pigeon, Shenwang Pigeon, Baikanu Pigeon, etc., but the key is to require the good reproductive performance of improved pigeons and the annual production of 20 squab pigeons for 12muri in order to have better benefits. Pigeons belong to the management scope of breeding birds. The units that sell breeding pigeons must hold the production and operation license of breeding birds, and the breeding units must issue breeding pigeon certificates to the breeding pigeons sold. When buying breeding pigeons, farmers must understand the situation of the breeding units before buying them.

3. Raising meat pigeons is a strong scientific technology. Do not introduce species blindly when you do not really master the breeding technology. Should first go to the breeding unit to learn training techniques, and then raise. It is best for beginners to introduce pigeons that have been paired and are laying, hatching and breastfeeding for less than 2 years. Young pigeons who blindly pursue cheap prices are not suitable for novice pigeon breeders, because the physique of young pigeons is relatively weak, and if the technology and management fail to keep up, it will lead to imbalance between male and female and unclear production. In addition, there is still a breeding stage from young pigeon to breeding pigeon, which still needs to be eliminated.
