In the process of feeding and management of meat pigeons, although it is a continuous process from small to large, there are certain differences in the physiological characteristics of each stage in the process of growth and development, which requires different emphasis in each stage of feeding and management. Therefore, according to the characteristics of growth and development and the actual arrangement of production, meat pigeons can be artificially divided into suckling pigeon stage (0 ~ 1 month old), child pigeon stage (1 ~ 2 months old), young pigeon stage (3 ~ 6 months old) and breeding pigeon stage (over 6 months old). Although the feeding and management techniques of meat pigeons in each stage have their own emphasis, the basic requirements in daily management are the same, and the following points should be followed in actual operation:

Ensure the comfort of the living environment

Environmental conditions not only affect the health of pigeons, but also affect their production performance. The environmental factors affecting pigeon production performance include temperature, humidity, light, density, noise, dust and so on. Although mackerel has a certain tolerance to various factors, if it exceeds its tolerance, it should have an impact on its production and health. Therefore, we must pay attention to adjust the temperature, humidity, ventilation and harmful gas content of the pigeon house, so as to keep warm in winter and cool in summer, dry and clean, and ensure that the concentration of harmful gas must be reduced to the index that does not harm the growth, development and health of meat pigeons.

Pay attention to the dynamics of the pigeons

Pigeons have a variety of dynamic manifestations, such as doubt, terror, sadness, illness, thirst, hunger, happiness and courtship. These performances should be carefully observed, from improving the feeding and management personnel, and to meet their aspirations and requirements, so as to give full play to their production potential.

Adhere to the principle of feeding less and more frequently.

Feeding less frequently can stimulate the pigeon's appetite, so that the parent pigeon can get adequate nutrition, avoid pigeon picky, reduce feed waste, and promote pigeon exercise.

Feed should be rationed and timed.

The daily food intake of meat pigeons generally accounts for about 1% of their body weight, and will increase slightly in winter and lactation. The amount of these feeds should be fed evenly in different periods. Usually, lactation is fed at 8am, 11:00, 3pm, 5pm and 9pm respectively. Young pigeons are fed once at 8am and 3pm every day, and each pigeon is fed 1520g each time.

Add health sand in time

When raising pigeons in large groups, put the health sand in a high dry and cool place and let them eat freely, and the caged meat pigeons should be separated by a separate health sand cup or on the other end of the trough. The amount of health sand consumed by meat pigeons is 5% ~ 10% of the feed intake. The health care sand should be kept moist and unable to make ends meet. In order to ensure that its effective ingredients will not be damaged and contaminated, it should be replaced every 5 to 7 days.

Take a bath regularly

Taking a bath will clean the pigeon's feathers, prevent the invasion of parasites in vitro, stimulate the secretion of growth hormone in the body, and promote muscle growth and development. Take a bath once a day when the weather is warm, twice a day in a hot summer, and twice a week in cold weather. Young pigeons and adult parent pigeons in the playground can make a bath in a corner of the playground. The size of the pool depends on the number of pigeons. A bath with length, width and height of 100 centimeters, 100 centimeters and 150 centimeters respectively can be used for 100 cranes to take a bath in turn. The water used for bathing had better be running water and keep the pool clean all the time. Caged pigeons can take a shower head at the top of the cage and turn on the shower head regularly every day for about 10 minutes each time. It is worth noting that parent pigeons that are hatching eggs and feeding squab within 10 days of age should not take a bath.
