The summer management of bonsai trees is difficult, because the summer temperature is high, the sunshine is strong, and storms and insect pests often occur, which is not conducive to the growth of bonsai trees. A little neglect may cause death and difficult to remedy. According to my own experience, the author thinks that as long as we do a good job in the management of the following aspects, we can make the bonsai go through the summer smoothly.

1. Shaping and pruning

It is very necessary to trim the bonsai before and after the Beginning of Summer, which can not only help to maintain the beautiful shape of trees, but also reduce the loss of nutrients and improve the ability of trees to endure hot and dry climate. At the same time, after pruning the stuffy head, the bonsai can make the trees grow new buds and increase their ornamental value.

(1) pick the heart. The new technology of bonsai trees has grown to a certain length after the beginning of spring. Before the Lignification of new branches, the growing points of tender shoots should be removed by hand to prevent excessive growth of branches, reduce the distance between branches, maintain a certain posture of trees, promote axillary bud germination and increase the density of branches and leaves.

Cypress heart picking generally begins in late May, it is appropriate to use fingers, such as scissors, the wound will be rusty, affecting viewing. You can pick it again at the end of summer. Broad-leaved trees such as maples, woody begonia, melon seeds and yellow poplars, which are easy to shoot, generally take 3 (pair) leaves of the new shoot, remove the tender head, and issue new shoots again after half a month, which can be picked again. After picking the heart, the branches and leaves can be luxuriant and the tree shape can be plump.

(2) picking leaves. The new leaves of foliage trees are the most beautiful when they are just exhibited. For elm, maple, ginkgo, pomegranate and other deciduous trees, the old leaves that are not beautiful enough can be removed in summer, and the new leaves will grow pleasing to the eye after about half a month. In the period before and after picking leaves, 2 Mel rotten liquid fertilizer can be applied for 3 times to ensure that the leaves are good.

(3) thinning flowers and fruits. Five-needle pine, melon seeds, yellow poplar, cypress wait for the flowers and fruits of trees, there is no ornamental value, can be removed in time, so as not to consume nutrients. Flowers, fruit trees, such as flowers, fruit is too prosperous, but also need to remove some flowers and fruits in order to maintain the tree momentum. It can avoid the consumption of nutrients and promote bud growth at the same time.

(4) pruning. It usually takes place before and after the Beginning of Summer. The principle of pruning is to beautify the shape of the tree and facilitate the growth of the tree. The growth habits of trees should be considered and the flowering and fruiting should not be affected. Generally speaking, withered branches and disease and insect branches should be cut off and burned at any time to prevent spread and spread; long branches should also be cut off, such as better position, can also be cut short to control growth.

The over-dense branches should be thinned to make the branches dense properly and conducive to ventilation and light transmission; the over-long branches should be cut short properly; all the crossed branches, overlapping branches and other branches that affect the shape should be pruned; attention should be paid to the induction and replenishment of the missing branches to make the tree shape complete. When trimming, you should also pay attention to: do not cut when it is hot and warm, scissors must be sharp, the cut should be smooth, and larger wounds can be protected by sealing wax.

2. Watering

Bonsai trees most avoid dehydration in summer, so in summer we should often pay attention to whether the potted soil is dry, especially whether the leaves are curled. If you find this situation, you must water it in time and water it thoroughly. When the sunshine is strong, you can spray some water mist on the leaves and trunks to increase humidity, so as to facilitate the water demand of trees.

3. Shading

When the sunshine is too strong in summer, bonsai trees can be protected, generally with ordinary bamboo curtains sold in the market, and sunshade nets can also be used under certain conditions. Curtains and nets should be rolled up the rest of the time so as not to affect the light demand of trees. In addition, in case of stormy weather, bamboo curtains can also be used to prevent the erosion of basin soil and the heat of trees, affecting the growth of trees.

4. Pest control

Summer is the season in which bonsai trees are most vulnerable to insect pests, so it is necessary to control them in time. Generally use appropriate amount of pesticides to spray leaves and trunks. Can also add 3 ordinary cigarettes per 500ml water soaked for several days, with its water spray trunk leaves, once a week, the effect is very ideal.
