In Shuikou Village, Tanshui Town, Yangchun City, there are dots of fish ponds and incubators everywhere, with more than 2000 people engaged in the fish fry incubation industry among more than 3800 people in the village. These incubators, known as "treasure basins", have become the economic pillar for local farmers to increase their income. The person who drives local farmers to cultivate sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry is a veteran in the village. His name is Fan Shaohe, 53 years old, not tall but very talkative. He has 30 years of experience in fish fry farming. He was also the first person in Tanshui town to introduce and explore the hatching technology of sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry. His daily job is to deal with fish fry and enthusiastically introduce his "fish fry classics" to everyone who comes to learn from them, so that the hatching technology of sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry can benefit the broad masses.

It is difficult to find out the hatching technology of sweet-scented osmanthus fry.

Fan Shaohe is a native of Shuikou Village, Tanshui Town, Yangchun City. after returning to his hometown in 1986, he was engaged in the breeding and hatching of four major fish fry.

As the Sihong fish market is saturated, meat fish and fish fry do not make much money and sometimes lose money. In 1993, Fan Shaohe, who was in urgent need of transformation, found through market research that sweet-scented osmanthus fish was sold as freshwater seafood in the market, and the price was high and easy to sell, up to more than 80 yuan per jin. In the Nanhai of Foshan, raising sweet-scented osmanthus fish has become an industry for local farmers to get rich, and has formed a professional market. After Fan Shaohe learned about the situation, he bought 40,000 yuan of sweet-scented osmanthus fish from Jiangmen Fisheries Research Institute to return to the village for breeding, hoping to become a hit.

However, as a valuable fish species, sweet-scented osmanthus fish is not easy to feed, and its culture technology is very different from that of Sihong fish. Reality also hit Fan Shaohe hard, and the first batch of fish were wiped out due to lack of experience. What made him want to cry was that he spent 13 days selling 15 pigs to raise more than 10,000 of the 40,000 yuan, and even the money for selling pigs was wasted.

Fan Shaohe, who did not bow to his fate, learned from the bitter experience. He found relevant books and studied hard day and night, looking forward to a turnaround. The reality still played a joke on him, the book knowledge was not suitable at all, and the second batch of fish was over. As a result, Fan Shaohe embarked on the road of learning from experience. He went to a successful farmer in a neighboring town to learn from the experience, but he closed the door, and even the request to visit the fish fry farm was rejected by others.

It is better to ask for help than to ask for yourself. Fan Shaohe, who settled down, took out the military spirit of enduring hardships and decided to find out the techniques for cultivating and hatching sweet-scented osmanthus fish on his own. He observed the growth process of sweet-scented osmanthus fish by the pond and gradually mastered the culture method of sweet-scented osmanthus fish. After the sweet-scented osmanthus fish laid eggs, he crouched by the hatchery day and night, keeping his eyes fixed on the changes of the fry. As the water in the pool was flowing, for a long time, Fan Shao and he suddenly felt dizzy and dizzy. When they closed their eyes, there was a spinning spray in front of them, and a pool staggered and fell next to it. Regardless of getting wet, he got up and continued to observe. After more than a year of practice and long-term observation, Fan Shaohe has mastered the entire hatching process of sweet-scented osmanthus fish, and the survival rate of fry and parent fish has reached more than 99%. The news attracted many villagers to come and work with him. And Fan Shaohe didn't hide anything and taught them hand in hand. After these people learned the technology, they returned to the local area to set up a sweet-scented osmanthus fish hatchery, bringing the sweet-scented osmanthus fish culture and hatching technology to all parts of Tanshui.

Take the lead in opening the circulation of sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry

Fan Shaohe said: in order to improve the efficiency of agricultural products, the key is to open up the circulation link. Foshan Nanhai is the main producing area and hatching area of sweet-scented osmanthus fish in the country. sweet-scented osmanthus fry are sold all over the country through the South China Sea. In recent years, due to the deterioration of the water quality in the Pearl River Delta, the South China Sea sweet-scented osmanthus fish incubation industry has gradually shifted outward, while in Yangchun, due to factors such as good water quality and suitable temperature in the mountain area, the hatched sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry with good quality, large size and fast growth are welcomed by the market. South China Sea sweet-scented osmanthus fry incubation industry is also gradually transferred to Yangchuntan water. According to the statistics of the national aquatic market, sweet-scented osmanthus fry produced in Tanshui account for 80% of the national sweet-scented osmanthus fry market. There are more than 100 fish fry agents in the town. At present, Fan Shaohe has 120 mu of parent fish ponds and more than 50 hatching ponds, hatching 5 billion fry of four major fish and more than 20 million fry of sweet-scented osmanthus every year.

Fan Shaohe said that the sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry produced at that time had to be shipped to the South China Sea, which would be acquired and charged by businessmen in the South China Sea and then airlifted to the northern market. Although the sweet-scented osmanthus fry in Shuikou village has a large output, it has no pricing power.

"at that time, we very much wanted to get sales channels, and many large farmers in the north also wanted to purchase goods directly to the origin to reduce costs, but businessmen in the South China Sea did not let us see our customers." There is still some drama to get through this sales channel. In 1998, several customers observed at the Nanhai Wholesale Market that the large truck carrying fish fry was Yue Q license plate. So they rented a car, followed the delivery truck back to Yangchuntan water, and then found a local passenger driver to find Fan Shaohe. After several guests visited the hatching production of fish fry, the two sides hit it off and shipped the goods directly from Tanshui, and then more people joined in, opening the circulation channel of sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry.

After opening the channel, reducing the transportation cost and ensuring the survival rate of fish fry has become a difficult problem. Since 2001, Fan Shaohe gradually changed the practice of packing and air transportation and began to use cars to transport directly to the destination. Fan Shaohe said that this was also forced out, and air transportation also had a lot of trouble. there were many transit links and a long time, and packaged fish fry were easy to die from hypoxia. Secondly, the cost is high, with a single freight of 40,000 yuan, while the car freight is only more than 10,000 yuan. The transport capacity of the car is large, and 50-1 million fish fry can be transported with 20 tons of water, and the benefit of a single vehicle is more than 100,000 yuan. At the beginning, they all failed. Fan Shaohe lost more than 2 million, due to the lack of highways and traffic jams at that time, and the long transportation time led to the death of fish fry. With the rapid development of highway, motor transportation has become the main force of fish fry transportation.

Drive surrounding farmers to develop fish fry incubation industry

Fan Shaohe said that the great development of sweet-scented osmanthus fry incubation industry in Tanshui town began in 1996. At that time, many farmers learned that Fan Shaohe was a capable person who could incubate fish fry, so they came to learn from the experience. Fan Shaohe is not a stingy person who generously teaches the hatching technology of sweet-scented osmanthus fish fry that he has successfully explored, driving and guiding farmers to develop the fish fry incubation industry. After mastering the hatching technology, many farmers go back to build hatching ponds and bring the technology to all parts of Tanshui like open branches and scattered leaves.

There are more than 3800 people in Shuikou village, and more than 2000 people are engaged in sweet-scented osmanthus fish breeding and hatching. 95% of the farmers in the village have set up fish fry farms, ranging from two to three mu to dozens of mu. Most of the newly built houses in the village in recent years are earned by farmers raising fish fry. A few years ago, in order to better promote the hatching and sale of fish fry in the village, Fan Shaohe, with the support of the village committee, took the lead in establishing a professional fishery and aquaculture cooperative in Yingtang, Yangchun City. Someone asked him why the co-operative was called Yingtang. Fan Shaohe said that the name Yingtang has a story. Shuikou Village has a fish pond with a history of more than 400 years, covering an area of more than 100 mu. The fish produced in this fish pond is called Yingtang, which is famous in history for its delicious meat. The annual output has been booked early. Therefore, the name Yingtang can enhance the popularity of the cooperative.

Fan Shaohe said that at present, more than 90% of the fry of the four major domestic fish raised in Shuikou village are used as feed to feed sweet-scented osmanthus fry, and the remaining less than 10% are used to raise adult fish. This industrial chain not only promotes the freshwater fish culture industry, but also greatly improves the output benefit of fish ponds. The annual benefit of one mu of fish ponds can reach more than 40,000 yuan. The annual output value of fish fry in the whole village is at least 30 million yuan. In Shuikou Village, not only cooperatives, but also mutual aid groups have been set up among farmers, usually three to five families are grouped together to help each other pick up fish, feed, ship goods, load cars, and participate in the whole production process. The advantage of this kind of mutual aid group is that all kinds of labor are used together, saving the cost of hiring people.

Fan Shaohe's daily task is still to revolve around fish fry. When he was walking around the village, he was taken home from time to time by the villagers he met by the side of the road, expecting him to "guide production." "Uncle Ho, are there any new varieties to be introduced this year?" "is there anything wrong with my pond fish? if there is any problem, I must help." You can see his prestige among the villagers. When a non-local businessman came over, Fan Shaohe picked up a pot of fish fry from the pond, pointed to the fry smaller than ants and said to the guests, "Don't underestimate the fry in this pond. You can earn 7,000 or 8,000 yuan in a few days."

Fan Shaohe said: if we had not taken this road in those years, there would not have been such a good situation as it is today. His greatest hope is that Tanshui Town can build a professional market for sweet-scented osmanthus fish, which will not only allow foreign businessmen to buy good fish fry, but also continue to expand the local fish fry industry.
