Monopterus Albus is a benthic fish living in tropical and warm temperate zones, with strong adaptability, and can survive in rivers, lakes, ditches and rice paddies. It is generally active in spring, summer and autumn, and likes to live in mud holes and stone crevices along ponds, streams and rice fields. Hibernate in winter. Spring rice field eel after a winter of latent, physical exertion is too large, need to eat a lot of food, so spring is a good time to catch rice field eel. The summer climate is hot, Monopterus Albus comes out one after another to drill holes in water plants, stone crevices, and under dead trees to "enjoy the cool". It is also easy to fish. Monopterus Albus begins to enter the hole in autumn, and it is not easy to bite.

A hook for catching ricefield eel

You have to make your own fishing tackle for cave eel fishing. Use a short 50cm bamboo pole to sharpen the handle (insert it into the soil next to the cave). With an old bicycle wire bar, one end of the grinding point is bent into a No. 3 long handle hook, and the other end is bent into a circle. Then use a 2-meter-long No. 3 strong nylon wire, one end is tied to the top of the short bamboo pole, and the other is tied to the circle of the steel wire. This kind of fishing tackle can make 10 and 20 pairs.

The place of fishing for ricefield eel

Eels are afraid of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, so it is difficult to find eels in fields and ponds in plain areas, only in mountain ponds in valleys and mud fields on hillsides. Because the pond water is formed by the accumulation of water infiltrated by the mountains and underground springs, the water quality is clear and it is a good place for eels to hide and breed. The cave of the eel is generally 10 to 20 centimeters from the water surface of the shore, which is round, upright and oblique, and the cave is wet or watery. The soil around the mouth of the cave is smooth and fishy. You can see the traces of eels going in and out. From the size of the hole, you can know the size of the eel. When fishing, as long as you find the fresh cave of the eel, you can catch it with confidence.

The method of fishing ricefield eel

1. Multi-hook fishing method: the angler inserts a short bamboo rod into the soil at the mouth of the cave and puts the line, hook and bait into the cave. This fishing method should choose multiple caves where eels are hidden in the big mountain pond or the muddy field at the foot of the mountain, because only one pair of fishing tackle can be used in one cave. There are so many caves that more than 10 sets of fishing tackle can be used. The anglers put the bait into the holes one by one, and then they can walk back and forth after inserting the rod, lifting the hook one by one with their hands, as long as they find that the eel in the cave has bit the dead hook, they can lift the rod.

2. In the single hook method, the angler holds the long-handle steel wire hook with his hand, installs the bait of earthworms or maggots, and inserts it directly into the cave where the eel is hiding. Move gently and wobble up and down slowly to induce the eel to bite. Generally speaking, eels are gluttonous, and as long as they smell fishy smell, they will raise their heads and bite the bait and drag it down. At this time, the angler will feel it, so he should immediately push the long handle hook forward, reverse the angle of the hook, firmly hook the eel, and put forward the hole to catch.

3. Bait hook: there is also a trick to hook eel. Put the whole earthworm into the long handle hook, do not expose the hook tip or leave a piece of earthworm outside the hook. Otherwise, eels will not bite if they eat earthworms, and it will be difficult to catch them. Eels feed on their sense of smell, and after the anglers insert the long-handle bait into the cave, they have to pull up and down for about a minute at a time in order to induce the eel to take the bait. When you feel the eel take the bait, do not lift the pole violently. Because the long handle steel wire hook is inelastic, if the force is too strong, the eel is easy to unhook and escape.

Note: the eel has slippery body, it is best to wear gloves after taking the bait, grab the neck of the eel with the index finger and middle finger, take off the hook and put it into the basket. Moreover, because the eel lives alone, after catching one in this cave, no eel will take the bait, so it will be transferred to another cave with eel, and the cave where the eel has been caught will be sealed with soil, so as to avoid taking the bait next time.
