In the production practice, we often find some large female eel and very small male eel, which seems to contradict the general law of sexual reversal of yellow eel. In fact, there are many factors that induce sexual reversal of yellow eel.

Water temperature

Monopterus Albus is an animal with variable temperature. The change of water temperature not only directly affects the normal life activities of Monopterus Albus, but also affects the gonadal development of Monopterus Albus. The suitable range of water temperature for Monopterus Albus is 15 ℃ ~ 30 ℃. The gonadal development of Monopterus Albus stops when the water temperature is more than 35 ℃, less than 10 ℃ or the temperature difference is more than 5 ℃ in a short time.

Acidity and alkalinity

Monopterus Albus is suitable to live in neutral or acidic water. The ph value of pool water is more than 7, which will affect the gonadal development of Monopterus Albus. When the ph value of pool water reaches 10:00, Monopterus Albus is restless and does not eat. If it lasts for 7 to 10 days, the skin of Monopterus Albus begins to fester and will soon die. Therefore, the new cement pool must be dealkalized before it can be used.

Water depth

The Gill of Monopterus Albus is seriously degenerated, so it can not rely on the Gill alone to breathe in the water, but must use the pectoral fin, fin fold, oral cavity, pharyngeal cavity, skin and other auxiliary respiratory organs to breathe. However, in a masonry pond, if the water is too deep, the ricefield eel will lose its fulcrum and cannot breathe oxygen in the air. Under the condition of long-term hypoxia, the gonadal development of Monopterus Albus will be prolonged.

Sound, light

Monopterus Albus goes out at night and likes to live in a quiet water environment, so it is not suitable to build the yellow eel pond on the noisy and flashing roadside at night. The production practice has proved that the gonadal development of Monopterus Albus is obviously slowed down after being stimulated by noise and flash at night, the sexual maturity is delayed, and the Monopterus Albus is still female when the average body length reaches 40 cm.

Sex ratio

During the reproductive season, a simple female population will cause some of the females to become males ahead of time due to the lack of males. Therefore, we often find some male eels with very small individuals.

Feeding and management

Monopterus Albus is mainly animal bait, and its feeding habits are miscellaneous. If the food quality is high and the feeding is uniform and timely, the sexual development of yellow eel will be rapid. If the quality of the food is poor and the feeding is uneven and untimely, the sexual development of yellow eel will be slow. Poor water quality, frequent water exchange, high flow rate and excessive temperature difference will delay the gonadal development of female eel.
