On the question of whether tap water can be used in eel ponds, we should first look at where the tap water is extracted, and then look at the processing and purification methods of tap water. If the tap water is pumped directly from the natural river water to thousands of households, this kind of water can be used to raise ricefield eel. However, when some tap water that has been medically purified or taken from deep underground is used to cultivate ricefield eel, the following three problems will arise:

Acidity and alkalinity problem

Tap water taken from underground has a high pH and long-term use can lead to chronic alkaline poisoning in ricefield eel. The symptoms are bleeding, mucus shedding, red and swollen anus and anaemic body color.

Drug residue problem

Long-term use of rice field eel cultured in tap water treated with chemical disinfectants such as bleach and strong chlorine will cause excessive chlorine residue in eel ponds or cages, resulting in cumulative poisoning in the middle and later stages of rice field eel. The main symptoms were liver damage of Monopterus Albus and obvious black blood band on the intestinal wall after death.

Temperature difference problem

Whether it is tap water taken from underground or purified tap water from rivers and lakes, there is a big temperature difference when it is used. Sometimes the temperature of tap water is more than 8 ℃ different from that of eel ponds or cages. Especially when the cold air moves south or the weather changes suddenly, the water temperature difference between the eel pond and the tap water is particularly obvious. If the temperature difference in eel pond or cage is more than ±3 ℃, Monopterus Albus will get sick, and in serious cases, it will lead to the complete failure of Monopterus Albus culture.

Correctly citing the method of culturing ricefield eel in tap water

Build a larger reservoir (cement reservoir, should be dealkalized before use), put tap water into the reservoir for 5 days after exposure to the sun for 7 days.
