Monopterus albus is a semi-hibernating fish. When the temperature is lower than 15℃, eel basically does not eat and does not move, relying on trace breathing into sting hibernation. Therefore, when autumn comes, the temperature gradually drops, and eel foraging and activity gradually weaken. At this time, by strengthening the autumn and winter optimization management, not only can continue to gain weight, but also can improve the survival rate of winter, beneficial to increase the yield of the coming year. There are mainly the following measures to optimize the feeding and management of Monopterus albus in autumn and winter:

fat feeding

Feeding eel with high fat content can accumulate more fat for consumption during hibernation. High fat content of feed, mainly silkworm chrysalis, earthworms, maggots and so on. To feed eel fat feed, as early as possible, generally before November, because the temperature in autumn is still relatively high, conducive to eel fat feed utilization, absorption and transformation, increase its energy required for winter, enhance its winter cold resistance, disease resistance and other aspects of the ability.

Reasonable capture of listing

eel likes to drill into the mud at the bottom of the pond, especially after the temperature drops obviously in late autumn, it will drill into the deep mud for winter. Therefore, for adult eel that meets the listing specifications, it should be reasonably caught and listed as early as possible before winter. To catch, drain the pool water and remove the surface mud before turning over the bottom mud with both hands to catch. Avoid using shovels, shovels and other hard sharp tools to dig, to prevent shoveling or bruising eel body. At the same time, we should catch the big ones and keep the small ones so that they can lay eggs and reproduce in the coming year.

Strengthening winter protection

The eel staying in the pond for overwintering can be protected by two methods: one is the eel pond with good water source conditions, which can be overwintered in deep water. That is, maintain a water layer of 50~70 cm deep in the pool, and put some water plants, duckweed, etc. on the water surface. When winter freezes, break open the ice to ventilate. In this way, not only can the bottom temperature be maintained, but also the oxygen content of the pool water can be maintained, creating an ideal overwintering condition for the eel. Second, the eel pond with insufficient water source conditions can be put into dry water for winter when eel begins hibernation. However, it should be noted that the pool soil should be kept moist and not too dry; plastic nets should be covered on the pool soil to prevent cats, dogs, weasels, mice and other animals from preying on eel; in case of freezing, the pool surface should be covered with insulation method for anti-freezing.
