Misgurnus anguillicaudatus is a warm water fish with strong adaptability to the environment. It mostly lives in shallow waters such as still water or slow-flowing ponds, ditches, lakes and rice paddies. It usually lives in the bottom of the water, sometimes likes to drill into the mud, and likes neutral and acidic soil.

Misgurnus anguillicaudatus can breathe not only by Gill but also by skin and intestine. Intestinal respiration is a unique physiological phenomenon of Loach. Misgurnus anguillicaudatus has thin intestinal wall and rich blood vessels, which has the function of assisting breathing and gas exchange. when there is insufficient dissolved oxygen in the water, it can drill out of the water and swallow air. After gas exchange in the intestine, the waste gas is discharged from the anus. Its resistance to anoxic environment is much better than other farmed fish.

Therefore, it is a kind of farmed fish with great potential to increase production. According to the sealing device experiment, the Loach began to die when the oxygen in the water solution was as low as 0.46 mg / L-0.48 mg / L. In the case of pond culture, the Loach will swim to the surface to swallow air and breathe in the intestine during hypoxia, so it can be safe and sound even if the dissolved oxygen is less than 0.16 mg / L.

The growth water temperature of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus is in the range of 13 ℃-30 ℃, and the optimum water temperature is 25 ℃-27 ℃. When the water temperature is below 5 ℃-6 ℃, or when the water temperature is above 34 ℃-35 ℃ in summer, or even when the water is dry, it will dive into the mud layer of 10 cm-30 cm for dormancy. During dormancy, as long as there is a little moisture in the soil and a small amount of moisture moistens the skin, life can be maintained.

Loach is good at escaping. When the water rises in spring and summer, there is a slight loophole in the pool wall and it will escape overnight. Therefore, to cultivate Loach, it is necessary to strengthen anti-escape management, and there must be anti-escape equipment at the inlet and outlet.
