Dutch pigs are herbivores, with well-developed masseter muscles and very thin stomach walls, and the cecum is particularly dilated, accounting for about 1 / 3 of the abdominal cavity. Dutch pigs need more crude fiber than rabbits, but they are not as prone to diarrhoea as rabbits. Guinea pigs eat a large amount of food and have a strong appetite for accustomed food, but they are particularly sensitive to deteriorating feed, so they often eat less or waste food, and even cause miscarriage. So what exactly do Dutch pigs eat?

What do Dutch pigs eat?

1. Fruit. Dutch pigs like fruit very much. It can be eaten: apples, oranges and watermelons (watermelons will have diarrhea if they are fed as little as possible). If you feed the grapes, cut the grapes in half and make sure there are no seeds in the grapes.

2. Vegetables. Some of the vegetables that Dutch pigs like to eat are: long-leaf lettuce or red-leaf lettuce, wrinkled parsley (celery), headless kale, green edamame beans, carrots, eggplant, dandelion leaves, chicory, green peppers (not spicy), tomatoes and so on. Wash the vegetables before feeding.

3. Snacks. Can give some alfalfa and berry snacks, oil-free sunflower seeds. These things are very greasy, so be careful not to give too much each time.

4. Grasses.

① Timothy grass: suitable for eating every day, can help digestion and recuperate the intestines and stomach of pigs, but also prevent pigs from getting fat, but also play the role of grinding teeth.

② alfalfa: feed properly (2-3 times a week) because alfalfa is rich in calcium and excessive intake over a long period of time can lead to kidney stones in pigs, but Dutch pigs prefer alfalfa to all.

What can't Dutch pigs eat?

1. Vegetables. Onions destroy the red blood cells of mice. Other vegetables that should be avoided are spinach, onions, leeks, potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower and lettuce (rolled lettuce). These foods can cause diarrhea, abdominal distension and poisoning in Dutch pigs.

2. Chocolate, coffee. The theobromine in chocolate can poison Dutch pigs, not even coffee, which can paralyze the heart. Snacks all people eat snacks are not accurate, in addition to the taste is too heavy, which added some chemical ingredients, may cause harm to the body of Dutch pigs!

3. Banana. Never feed bananas to Dutch pigs! Because excessive potassium in bananas can cause urinary tract disease in Dutch pigs.

4. Cooked food processed by human beings should not be eaten. For example, Dutch pigs don't eat meat.

Feed classification

The feeding of Dutch pigs should be supplemented by grain and grass. To be exact, we have to go to the pet store to buy food for it, and buy food and grass for Dutch pigs. Moses grass and ryegrass are the best. But just eating these two is not good, occasionally add some supplementary food to them, such as fruits, vegetables, carrots, that is, grass is added as soon as it is finished or almost finished, and the grain is fed regularly and rationally every day. If you give priority to grain, Dutch pigs will get overweight. Do not use hot water or unboiled water. It is best to boil it cold and boiled. Change it once a day. As the Dutch pig is a herbivore, the digestibility of crude fiber is high, such as long-term supply of green material or hay and other plants, peeling will occur, so the feeding supply should be refined, green materials should be properly matched.

① concentrate: corn meal, wheat bran, rice bran, etc., can also be fed to piglets.

② green material: fresh tender grass, such as oak grass, corn leaves, sugarcane leaves, leaves, green vegetables, peels, carrots, sweet potatoes and so on.

Feeding guidelines

1. Feeding of Dutch pig babies.

A few hours after birth, the baby of Dutch pigs can eat soft fodder. After 2-3 days, they can suck breast milk while eating green feed or mixed feed, and grow rapidly. About 15-20 days after weaning. Dutch pig babies have low immunity, not only green vegetables, carrots and so on, but only grass and grain. From weaning to maturity, Dutch pigs have a daily feed intake of 30g to 50g and a water requirement of 60ml to 120ml.

2. Feeding of adult Dutch pigs (1-4 years old).

Adult Dutch pig is a mixture of grass, grain and other supplementary foods. The daily food intake of adult Dutch rats is 50 to 75 grams and the water requirement is 80 to 150 milliliters. Special feed + grass + vegetables + fruit. Feed 20g to 30g a day, and at the same time, feed some vegetables and fruits more or less, twice in the morning and evening, and feed regularly. Pellet feed should be fed directly with clean water or mixed feed, eating less and eating more. If you feed dry and wet material, you can give it once in the morning, cabbage and carrots at noon, and forage and grass in the evening. If you feed a granule, you can give it once in the morning and keep plenty of clean water every day.

3. Feeding of old Dutch pigs (over 4 years old).

The vitality of old Dutch pigs is not as vigorous as that of adult Dutch pigs, and they naturally need less nutrition every day than adult Dutch pigs. For the old Dutch pigs with reduced masticatory ability and nutrient absorption, a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables, an appropriate amount of forage and a small amount of feed are the better choices. In addition, a small amount of vitamin C supplementation every day can make old Dutch pigs live healthier lives.

4. Points for attention

① although the Dutch pig will control the right amount by itself, you must keep its bowl full because it may need to eat at any time.

② most animals can make vitamin C in their bodies, with the exception of Dutch pigs. Raise a Dutch pig need to supplement vitamin C, feed special feed at the same time, you can match some vegetables, fruit to it to eat, give it fruit after eating is a good idea.

③ food Timothy grass must be available, and unlimited feed should be added in the morning and evening (unlimited alfalfa hay was recommended six months ago, and unlimited Timothy grass was recommended six months later).
