Fruit flies are widely found in temperate and tropical climates around the world. Because their staple food is yeast, and rotten fruits are easy to breed yeast, they can be found in gardens, vegetable markets and other areas in human habitats. Let's take a look at the harm of fruit flies.

Are fruit flies harmful to people?

Fruit flies are harmless to humans. In fact, the eggs and larvae of fruit flies are harmless to the human body, but they are psychologically unacceptable. Unlike houseflies we usually see, fruit flies are parasitic in plant fruits and move only on fruits. They are relatively clean and basically do not produce germs.

What are the hazards of fruit flies?

1. Harmful to vegetables and fruits: the Mediterranean fruit fly is the most harmful fruit fly, which is native to tropical Africa and is now distributed in more than 80 countries and regions in the world. It can harm 250 kinds of plants, such as citrus, apple, pear and eggplant vegetables. It is known as the "number one killer of fruit" and is recognized as the most destructive pest in the world.

2. Terrifying fecundity: what is even more frightening is that a female Mediterranean fruit fly can reproduce up to 21.5 billion after three generations, which takes only 60 days.

Control methods of Drosophila

1. Agricultural prevention and control

① elimination of insect fruit: during the mature harvest of pomegranate, loquat, peach, jujube and other fruits, timely remove fallen fruit and pick off rotten fruit and insect fruit in the field, and concentrate on deep burying and destruction, so as to eliminate the larvae of insect fruit and reduce the number of insects of the next generation.

② fruit bagging: bagging pomegranate, loquat, peach and other fruits in time before they are spawned by fruit flies, which can effectively prevent adults from laying eggs.

③ uses anti-insect net: jujube cultivated in greenhouse can use 60-mesh anti-insect net to prevent adults from entering the greenhouse to lay eggs and effectively prevent harm.

2. Chemical control

During the period from fruit expansion to harvest, ① hung a large area of fruit fly attractant (methyl eugenol) to trap and kill adults and reduce the number of eggs laid. The trap will be hung on the canopy about 1.5 meters from the ground, hanging 4-5 bottles per mu, using plum blossom arrangement.

In the peak period of adult occurrence, pomegranate from August to October, loquat from November to May, peach from the end of April to the middle of July, insecticides were applied 1-2 times a month, that is, 3000 times of cypermethrin insecticide was used to control adults.

③ can use 50% trichlorfon 1000 times liquid + 30% brown sugar to spray the crown, trap and kill adults, spray once every 5-6 days, continuously spray 3-4 times, can kill adults up to 90%, the best spraying time is 9: 00 am.
