The fly is a typical completely abnormal insect in biology. it has the physiological characteristics that once mating can lay eggs for life. its fecundity ranks first in the insect world and goes through four stages: egg stage, larva, pupa stage and adult. let's take a look at the name of fly larvae.

What's the name of the larva of a fly?

The larvae of flies are called maggots. Fly maggots are hatched by flies after laying eggs in 15-40 ℃ hours. They are about two centimeters long and walk through peristalsis. They have three ages. The 1st instar larvae are 1-3 mm long and have only posterior valves. After molting, it becomes 2 years old, with a length of 3-5 mm, with a front valve and a posterior valve with 2 cracks. The second molting is 3 years old, 5-13 mm long, and the posterior valve is 3-lobed. The body color of fly maggots changed from transparent and milky white to milky yellow at 1-3 years old, until it matured and pupated.

What do fly larvae eat?

Maggots are omnivorous and feed locally in their habitats. Some people have found as many as 76400 maggots and pupae in 1.5 square meters of pig feces. Animal feed, plant feed and even the protein in microorganisms are all favorite nutrients for maggots. The quantity, quality, fermentation temperature and water content of food are directly related to the developmental effect of maggots. Maggots of the 3rd instar stop feeding when they are mature. Under the conditions of low temperature 15-20 ℃ and low humidity, they often leave the breeding place and pupate in the loose soil nearby.

The growth process of flies

1. Egg stage: the egg of the fly is milky white, banana-shaped or oval, about 1 mm long, there are two ridges on the back of the eggshell, and the membrane between the ridges is the thinnest, from which the larvae emerge during hatching. the development time of the egg stage is 8-24 hours, which is related to the ambient temperature and humidity. The eggs are sterile below 13 ℃, and die if they are less than 8 ℃ or higher than 42 ℃. Humidity also affects the hatching rate of eggs.

2. Larvae: maggots like to drill holes, are afraid of strong light, live in the dark places of breeding organisms all day long, are polyphagous, and all kinds of rotten and fermented organic matter are its delicacies.

3. Pupa stage: the pupa is the third metamorphosis in the fly's life history, in the shape of a bucket, that is, the surrounding pupa, its body color changes from light to deep, and finally becomes chestnut brown, with a length of 5-8 mm. Metamorphosis continues in the pupa shell. Once the embryonic form of the fly is formed, it enters the Eclosion stage. During Eclosion, the fly expands and contracts alternately by the forehead sac of the head, squeezes out the head of the pupa shell and crawls out, passing through loose sand or other culture materials to reach the surface of the ground.

4. Adult flies: adult flies have a pair of large compound eyes on the head, including about 4000 small eyes, the vision is sensitive, the sense of smell is on the antennae, and the taste organs are mainly in the feet, which is beneficial to finding food when crawling.
