Pocket coconut, also known as dwarf coconut, pocket palm, pocket sunflower, dwarf palm, etc., is an evergreen plant of the palm family, originated in Mexico and Guatemala, plus shade tolerance, so it is very suitable for indoor small and medium-sized potted plants. decorate the living room, study, conference room, hotel service desk and other indoor environment, let's take a look at the breeding methods and points for attention of pocket coconut!

Growth habits of pocket coconut

Pocket coconut likes warm, humid and semi-overcast environment, the suitable temperature for growth is 20: 30 ℃, the dormant period enters at 13 ℃, and the lowest temperature for overwintering in winter is 3 ℃. The cultivation substrate is well drained, moist and fertile loam, and it can be cultivated in pot with rotten leaf soil, peat soil, river sand and a small amount of base fertilizer. The requirement of fertilizer is not high, generally, liquid fertilizer is applied once or twice a month in the growing season, with little or no fertilization in late autumn and winter.

Breeding method of pocket coconut

1. Sowing: the best sowing time is from spring to summer, and it is better to pick and sow. The optimum temperature for seed germination is 3035 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is high, it can germinate earlier and the duration of germination is shorter. It can germinate in about 1-1.5 months after 35 ℃ sowing, 1.5-2 months after 30 ℃ sowing, and 4-6 months below 25 ℃. Winter sowing needs heat preservation treatment. The seedlings were soaked in water at room temperature for 1 or 2 days before sowing, covered with soil about 1 cm after sowing, watered properly, germinated for about 1 to 2 months, and then planted after 2 or 3 times of pseudo-planting and fertilizer cultivation.

2. Ramet: the mixed substrate of peat and perlite is used for ramet propagation, and a plastic flowerpot with a diameter of 15 cm to 20 cm is used. The bottom of the pot is filled with pottery sand as the drainage layer. The one-year-old soilless potted pocket coconuts were planted in the flowerpots of the above-mentioned mixed substrate, with 3 to 4 plants per pot.

Cultivation method of pocket coconut

1. Potted soil: pocket coconut potted plants can generally be cultivated with rotten leaf soil, peat soil, 1 + 4 river sand and a small amount of base fertilizer as the substrate. It is best to plant in a loose and fertile loam with good drainage.

2. Watering: watering is based on the principle that it is better to be wet than dry, and the basin soil can always be kept moist. When the air is dry in summer and autumn, we should often spray water to the plants to improve the air humidity of the environment, which is beneficial to its growth, while keeping the leaves dark green and shiny, and appropriately reduce the amount of water in winter to facilitate overwintering.

3. Fertilization: pocket coconuts do not have high requirements for fertilizer. In general, liquid fertilizer is applied once or twice a month in the growing season, with little or no fertilization in late autumn and winter. The basin is changed in spring every 2-3 years.

4. Temperature: the suitable temperature for growth is 15: 30 ℃, among which it is 19: 30 ℃ from May to September and 13: 16 ℃ from October to April of the following year. When the temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer, the temperature should be shaded properly or taken measures such as water spraying and ventilation. The ambient temperature should be maintained at no less than 5 ℃ in winter, otherwise the long-term temperature below 5 ℃ will be easy to freeze and fall leaves.

5, place: pocket coconut has a great tolerance to light, but it is best in the half shade of 50% sunshine.

6. Disease: pocket coconut is prone to social brown spot under high temperature and high humidity. If brown spot is found, 800-1000-fold topiramate or chlorothalonil should be used to control the disease. Scale insects are also easy to occur when the air is dry and poorly ventilated. if it is found that scale insects can be scraped manually, they can also be sprayed with 800 to 1000 times omethoate.

Points for attention of pocket coconut

1. Pocket coconuts prefer a shady environment, so indoor training should be placed near the north window, east window or other places with bright scattered light. Pocket coconuts are most afraid of direct light, even if they are exposed to the sun for a short time, it will also cause the leaves to scorch and turn yellow. On the contrary, if it is kept in a dark, dry place for a long time, the color of the leaves will become lighter and lose its luster.

2. The optimum temperature for the growth of pocket coconut is 20: 30 ℃. In winter, the indoor temperature is between 12 and 14 ℃, and the lowest temperature can not be lower than 10 ℃.

3. In order to maintain the ambient air humidity in breeding pocket coconuts, water is often sprayed to the leaves to increase air humidity.

4. Acid soil should not be used in the basin soil for breeding pocket coconut, and a small amount of clay should be added.

5. Pocket coconut culture needs to change the pot every 3 years.

6. Pocket coconut seedlings should be fertilized with dilute liquid fertilizer for 3 or 4 times in two seasons in spring.
