Citrus fruit trees mainly originate from rainy forest areas in southern China. They are subtropical evergreen fruit trees. They like warm and humid climate, are not resistant to low temperature, are more resistant to sprouting, have good air and good water at their roots, and require fertile soil rich in organic matter. Let's take a detailed look at the planting conditions of citrus.

temperature influence

Temperature is the main factor affecting citrus cultivation distribution, yield and quality, and is also the main basis for citrus ecological regionalization. It is generally believed that 12.8℃ is the initial growth temperature of citrus, the optimum temperature for growth is 23~31℃, and the growth is inhibited when it reaches 37~38℃. Effective accumulated temperature has great influence on citrus growth. In citrus producing areas in China, the annual accumulated temperature ≥10℃ is 4500~9000℃.

lighting conditions

Citrus has a wide range of adaptation to sunshine. In citrus producing areas in China, the annual sunshine hours are about 1000~2700 hours. Generally, the growth results are good. Citrus is more tolerant of shade. Scattered light is beneficial to enhance photosynthesis. Direct light is too strong, which is often unfavorable for citrus growth and easy to cause fruit and branches to burn. Therefore, proper planting density is beneficial to citrus growth and fruit. But citrus to high yield and high quality, also need better light, sufficient sunshine, branches and leaves grow healthy, leaves small and thick, high nitrogen, phosphorus content, flower bud differentiation is good, fruit more and high yield, good coloring, aroma, improve sugar and vitamin C content.

for high moisture dates

Citrus is wet, annual water demand is large, annual rainfall of 1200~2000 mm is appropriate. During citrus growing season, rainfall is more and more uniform, which can reduce irrigation costs. If rainfall is less or dry season, irrigation must be carried out.

topographical soil

Citrus can be cultivated successfully in mountainous, hilly, flat and alluvial areas. The adaptability to soil is also wider, such as purple soil, red and yellow soil, alluvial tidal soil and so on can grow results. However, citrus root system is good for good water and requires rich soil layer, rich in organic matter, loose soil and fertile soil with good structure. Generally, the organic matter content of soil is more than 3%, preferably about 5%. Citrus can adapt to a wide range of soil pH, in the pH range of 4.8 ~8.5, can obtain high yield, and pH 6.0 ~6.5 is suitable. In purple soil of our province, alkaline purple soil has pH above 8.0. Citrus trees are weak and leaves are yellow. Attention should be paid to improving soil.
