Factors affecting dissolved oxygen content

Effect of dissolved oxygen on fish

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is an important factor affecting fish food intake, digestion and absorption rate after feed intake, growth rate and feed coefficient. The following is a simple analysis: low dissolved oxygen in water, fish appetite loss, or even refuse to eat, even if eating feed, it will cause low digestion and absorption rate, slow growth rate, lower feed utilization rate. Tropical fish require more than 7ppm dissolved oxygen in the water. If the dissolved oxygen in the water drops to 5ppm, the tropical fish will float. If no measures are taken, the tropical fish will be at risk of suffocation.

The oxygen consumption per unit body weight of fish decreased with the increase of fish body weight, while the oxygen consumption of individual fish increased with the increase of fish body weight. With the increase of water temperature, the metabolism of fish is prosperous, and the oxygen consumption of fish is also high. The greater the food intake of fish, the higher the oxygen consumption.
