In the 6th century, King Kusi (immortal soul) of the Sassanian dynasty of Iran introduced sugarcane to Iran for cultivation. Sugarcane was planted in Iraq, Egypt, Sicily and the Iberian Peninsula from the 8th to the 10th century. Later, Portuguese and Spanish colonists brought sugar cane to America.
