Figs are native to the Mediterranean coast and are distributed from Turkey to Afghanistan. China was introduced from Persia in the Tang Dynasty. Fig producing areas in China are mainly distributed in * *, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places. Figs in North China are mainly concentrated in Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai along the coast of Shandong, while Jiangsu Province is mainly distributed in Nantong, Yancheng, Danyang and Nanjing. Fujian Province is mainly cultivated in Fuzhou, and there is also a certain area in the suburbs of Shanghai. The yield and quality of figs are crowned all over the country. Although figs are widely planted and distributed in China, very few figs are concentrated into pieces, so they are rare fruit varieties.

In addition, there are several kinds of figs in China. Wenguang fruit in Hebei, Tianxianzi in Sichuan, and Zuo Duzi in Liangguang are all called figs, but their flowers are hidden and difficult to see. similar plants include rubber tree, banyan tree, banyan tree, Xue Li and so on.

Fig trees like sunny, warm and relatively dry continental climate, more drought-resistant, not cold-resistant, not wind-resistant, like fertilizer, not very strict on the soil, more saline-alkali tolerance, but not waterlogging. At present, fig is one of the fastest fruit trees in the world, and it is also an excellent ornamental plant. It not only has a large degree of gloom, but also contains a special aroma, pleasant fragrance, less diseases and insect pests, and can filter out harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide and benzene in the air. It is a suitable tree species for urban greening.

A fig is a compound fruit formed by the development of receptacle and other organs of the flower. The fig receptacle is rolled up to the middle and wraps the stamens like a steamed bun. in fact, the fig is a whole flower. Figs are spherical, oval, pear-shaped or loquat-shaped, with yellow, green, light red, reddish brown, dark purple, etc., and pink, crimson or milky yellow flesh. When you break the figs, you will see many clusters, as well as small seeds, which are pollinated seeds. It is the pistil that seeds, and the stamens that do not seed.

Almost every new shoot of fig can become a fruiting branch, and almost every leaf axil is a fruiting part, which gradually hangs fruit and ripens from the lower part of the branch. When the new buds spread their leaves in spring, each petiole base produces a young fruit, which eventually forms a "summer fruit"; while the new shoots prolong their growth, they gradually form a receptacle from the base to the top, and grow into "autumn fruit". The autumn fruit is born on the new shoots that year, while the summer fruit is born on the branches formed last year. Around the end of the fifth month of the lunar calendar (after the Summer Solstice), the remaining fruit that overwintered in the first year matured; in mid-July, the fruit that sat for the first time matured; after September, the fruit matured for the second time; and the remaining unripe fruit matured in the second year after overwintering. This is a characteristic of figs.
