Golden unicorn flower, also known as Jingangzu, iron begonia, etc., is a succulent plant of Euphorbiaceae, native to America, because it is very similar to the unicorn in ancient Chinese legend, so it is also called jade unicorn. It is also named Golden Kylin because the thorns on the plant are illuminated by light at night. Let's take a look at how to raise potted golden unicorn flowers.

The growth habit of Golden Kylin

Golden unicorn stem dense brown hard thorns, leaves alternate, widely lanceolate, few leaves, all born on new branches. Native to the American cold zone, China's Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other provinces have open-field cultivation, North China, East China and other places for pot cultivation. Like plenty of sunshine, but withstand half shade, a little drought will not dry to death.

The breeding method of Golden Kylin

The golden unicorn should be propagated by cuttings, cutting 8cm to 10cm from the top of the branches of the mother plant from May to June, wipe off the white pulp from the cut, dip it in plant ash, and arrange it for 3 to 4 days to make the wound monotonous and then cut in clean sand. Less watering after insertion, in order to maintain the semi-dry shape of the basin soil, rooting for more than 1 month. The next autumn is planted in the flowerpot, as usual watering should be less, see dry and then water, otherwise the root will rot. If you keep the room temperature around 10 ℃ in summer, you can survive the winter safely.

The Culture method of Golden Kylin

1. Soil: the basin soil for planting Golden Kirin had better choose the mixture of more pond mud (river mud) and a small amount of cinder. This mixed soil has good hydrophobic and breathable effect, which is very beneficial to the growth of Golden Kirin.

2. Watering: Golden Kirin likes neutral soil and water, acidic or alkaline soil and water will threaten the growth. because it is a cactus, it is necessary to water less, preferably once every 6 to 7 days. Those planted in sunny places outside can be sprayed and watered every 2 days, and there can be no stagnant water in the flowerpot, otherwise the roots are easy to rot. When watering, the water should be placed at room temperature. If the watering temperature is too different from the surface temperature of the golden unicorn, it is easy to cause the surface of the golden unicorn to rupture and even lead to the death of the plant.

3. Lighting: Golden Kirin originates from the desert of South America. It likes high temperature, light and exposure, and abundant sunlight is more conducive to promoting its growth. Because of this, balconies and roofs in the south have become the best places to grow them. In the north, because the golden unicorn is cold-resistant and drought-resistant, it is easy to plant them, so it is no problem to plant them indoors. But if there are conditions, they will grow better if they are moved outside in sunny weather.

4. Fertilization: Golden Kirin is suitable for neutral fertilizer, such as potassium nitrate. Or some organic fertilizers, such as peanut dregs or bean dregs. Fertilizer can be applied once a month, and more can be applied during the growth periods of May and June.

5. Diseases and insect pests: Golden Kirin has few diseases and insect pests, but it is easy to be harmed by shell insects because of poor ventilation in greenhouse or place for a long time. Leaf dust can be sprayed with clean water every 10 days in winter and spring. In addition, it is sensitive to sprinkling tea and gas.

6. Change the basin: if the temperature warms up in spring, you can change the basin for the palm of the unicorn between Qingming Festival and Grain Rain. When changing the basin, remove the old soil, remove the persistent soil in the root, remove the decaying root, keep the basin soil moist after changing the basin, put it indoors for about 10 days, and then gradually move out of the outdoor.
