A Method for Distinguishing Fake and Inferior Hybrid Rice Seeds

Look at the evenness.

The seed shape of hybrid rice mixed with other rice is irregular. The seeds of male parents or other indica rice were slender and fuller than those of hybrid rice, while japonica rice was more round.

Look at the grain shell color.

The husk of hybrid rice seeds has some physiological colors such as uneven yellowish brown, while the grain color of male parent and maintainer line is the same. The grain transparency of maintainer line and other hybrid rice seeds is higher than that of hybrid rice seeds, and the husk is smoother than hybrid rice seeds.

Look at the stigma marks.

Because most of the grains of non-hybrid rice are self-pollinated, the pistil stigma is not exposed, the stigma marks are left in the hull, and a light black stigma mark can be seen at the top of the rice grain. On the other hand, the hybrid belongs to cross-pollination and the stigma is exposed. by carefully observing the gap between the grain and the Lemma, we can find a small black spot, that is, the stigma mark, which is an important basis for identifying hybrid rice seeds and other rice grains.

Look at the staining determination.

The method is to cut the rice husk longitudinally from the embryo, wash half of each grain and soak it in red ink diluted to 60 times, then remove it and rinse it with clean water 1 hour later. If the seed embryo is not stained or dyed lighter, it is proved that the seed has vigor; if the staining is deeper, it is proved that the seed has lost its vitality. In this way, the spoiled seeds that do not germinate in the hybrid seeds can be identified.

Look at the purity of seeds

Copy the seeds by hand, there are solid particles such as soil particles, sand grains and other impurities between the palm fingers, and the fingers are stained with fine powder, which proves that the purity of the seeds does not reach the national standard (99%).

Look at the water content of seeds

The simple method is to bite the grain with teeth, if there is a sharp crisp sound, the water content is basically normal; if there is no sharp crisp sound or the grain section is irregular, the seed water content is generally higher than the normal standard (11.5%).

Look at the seed "three syndromes"

All the seeds with seed management license, quality certificate and plant protection department disease and pest quarantine certificate are high quality hybrid rice seeds. Otherwise, it is a fake hybrid rice seed.
