The advantages and disadvantages of wheat seeds are mainly identified from several aspects, such as germination ability, seed moisture, seed morphology and seed vigor.

Germinating ability

The main results are as follows: 1. The simple germination method of water immersion: take 400 seeds, each 100 as a group, put them in a container respectively, soak them in clean water for 18 hours, then take them out, cover the seeds with a wet towel (not too wet), and observe the budding after 1 or 2 days. The average percentage of germination can be calculated respectively.

2. body temperature germination: soak the seeds in warm water for 4 hours and then take them out. Wrap the seeds in a moist towel, put them in a plastic bag and put them in the underwear pocket. Generally, the pocket temperature is 25 ℃ ~ 30 ℃. Check once a day to make the seeds breathable. If the seeds are sticky, the mucus secreted by the seeds should be washed away to prevent the seeds from mildew. After 2-3 days, the seeds germinate, and the percentage of germinated seeds in all seeds can be calculated.

Seed moisture

1. Visual inspection: the dry seeds are dark and fresh and glossy, and the seeds with high moisture content are dark and dull.

2. Ear listening: when the seed is raised, the dry seed makes a crisp sound, and the seed with high water content makes a dull sound.

3. Tooth bite: dry seeds are hard to bite with teeth, and the sound is loud and the cross section is smooth. The seeds with high water content are stickier and the cross section is not smooth.

4. Nose smell: dried seeds have fresh smell, while seeds with high water content have peculiar smell

5. Feel: if the hand is inserted into the seed pile, if you feel a breath of air-conditioning, the seed is relatively dry, on the contrary, the water content is higher. The seeds are easily crushed on the hard board with fingernails, and the seed coat and pulp are pressed into a ball, which can not be separated, which indicates that the seed moisture content is high, about 12%.

Seed morphology

Seed morphology is one of the most stable characters in plant life history, and it is the main basis for variety identification. Seed size, surface characteristics and color can be observed. These can only be applied to the identification of wheat seeds with obvious differences among varieties.

Seed vigor

Seed vigor determines the comprehensive performance of seed characteristics, such as seed activity during germination and seedling emergence, as well as seedling morphology, which is a main index to evaluate the quality of seeds. Great economic losses are often caused by the decrease of seed vigor in agricultural production. Therefore, the identification of seed vigor is of great significance.

1. The fresh and glossy seed coat has vitality, on the contrary, there is no vitality.

2. The radicle with light color, fullness and elasticity has vitality, while the radicle with deep color, dryness, shrinkage and inelasticity has no vitality.

3. Take a breath on the seed, if there is no moisture adhesion and shows a special luster, it has vitality, on the contrary, it is a lifeless seed.
