Last Updated: 2024/11/05, As the saying goes: orchid three-point planting, seven-point management, but a day of planting accounts for three points, we can see the importance of orchid planting, it can also be said that orchid planting is a key step to raise orchids, can be used for future management.

As the saying goes: orchids are divided into three-part planting, seven-part management, seven points of perennial management, but three points of one-day planting, which shows the importance of orchid planting. It can also be said that orchid planting is a key step in raising orchids, which can lay a solid foundation for future management, otherwise all kinds of diseases and insect pests will be frequent and annoying. In order to facilitate everyone, the method of planting orchids is summarized into eight steps for your reference. When you carefully plant a pot of orchids, the sense of achievement of orchids has just begun. as long as you manage them properly, the growing orchids will continue to surprise you and let you enjoy the fun of orchids.

Step 1: prepare the planting material

The plant materials for planting orchids are required to be ventilated, breathable, drained, moisturized and fertile, and there are many orchid plants to choose from. In order to meet the above requirements, it is better to choose orchid plants with stable grain characters. The commonly used commercial orchid plants are pine chestnut king, fairy soil, gold planting stone, pond cornerstone, orchid soil and so on. The materials that can be used locally are burning soil, volcanic stone, wind fossils, cinder (sifted into coarse and medium grains, remove dust particles), broken bricks, tiles, pebbles, coarse sand, charcoal, willow bark, pine needles, pine bark, sawdust, etc., are good orchid plants, generally speaking, can be divided into hard medium and soft plant materials or inorganic and organic plant materials, hard medium and soft plant materials can be mixed and then planted The effect is also very good, there is no need to use alone, orchid plant material does not have an omnipotent plant formula, can only learn from the experience of others to practice, adjust in the experiment, optimize the best scheme, it can be said that the day of matching the orchid plant material suitable for your own environment is the beginning of your success in orchid cultivation. The plant material used by the author is a mixture of pine chestnut king and plant gold stone at 1:1, and the effect is very good. Pine chestnut king is an organic plant material, also known as soft plant material, moisturizing, sufficient fertility, plant stone as inorganic plant material hard medium, ventilation, drainage, the combination of the two is just perfect to meet the environment needed for the growth of Langen, and the management is simple and convenient, without any diseases and insect pests.

Step 2: the choice of orchid pots

There are many kinds of pots that can grow orchids, but we should be careful when we choose them. Although the size, shape, material and color of the pots are different, they can be divided into porcelain pots, purple sand pots, mud pots and plastic pots. Porcelain pots are beautifully made but poorly breathable, and non-orchid experts generally do not choose them. Purple sand basin is beautiful and has certain ventilation and water absorption function, but the price is expensive, the cost is high, suitable for planting good orchid varieties and put in a good place space to improve personal grade and variety, very elegant. Tile basin has good air permeability, strong water absorption function, with loose plant materials, no worry about stagnant water, but slightly less beautiful; plastic basin has the advantages of light weight, cheap and practical, but the basin wall does not have the water absorption of tile basin, if the plant material is not prepared carelessly, it is easy to accumulate water; the above four orchid pots are worth our attention that the new purple sand and tile basin suggestions must be soaked to "fire poison" before use.

Step 3: clean up the orchid plant

First, clean up the roots of orchids and cut off diseased roots and rotten roots with sterilized scissors, but the residual roots of orchid plants with fewer roots should be treated differently: if there are less than two roots, we should find ways to retain the broken residual roots and retain the root core (central column) without outer skin; if there are more than four good roots, other rotten roots can be cut off. If the downhill grass grows too vigorously, you can consider cutting off some of the excess orchid roots. Then it is to clean up the leaf beetles of orchids, which often become parasitic places for bacteria and insects, which must be carefully cleaned and pruned so that the leaf bundles are neat and clean, and the withered false bulbs should also be removed, but be careful not to damage leaf buds, flower buds and bud points; the third is to prune the leaves of orchids and cut off the leaves with diseased spots and dry leaves. The plaque in the heart of the leaf can be removed by toothpick puncture, or burn the spot with cigarette. The diseased leaves with a small number of leaves can be temporarily cut off, medicine can be applied to treat the disease, leaving them to maintain transpiration pull, maintain growth, and then cut off after the new buds grow strong.

Step 4: sterilize and disinfect Orchid strain

Orchid seedlings, orchid pots and plants all need to be sterilized. The common method for plants and pots is to be exposed to the sun for more than 3 days. Or use a pressure cooker or steam boiler to disinfect thoroughly at high temperature, use drugs to disinfect optional fungicides such as methyl thiophanate, carbendazim, chlorothalonil, potassium permanganate, etc., and use 800ml 1000 times liquid. It is best to seal the plant materials for more than one week after sterilization. Some Lanyou use microwave ovens to disinfect a small amount of plants. Potassium permanganate, methyl thiophanate and carbendazim can be used for sterilization and disinfection of orchid seedlings. Soak in 1000 times solution of chlorothalonil and other fungicides for half an hour, then remove the orchid seedlings and wash them with clean water to dry. After the orchid root is soft, it can be put on the basin.

Step 5: cushion the orchid

The cushion basin can be made with a special conical filter cover or optional coarse planting material pad at the bottom of the basin, with a thickness of 15% of the basin height. If the cone filter cover cannot be purchased, it can be made with mineral water bottles or beverage bottles, cut the upper end or lower end into about length 10cm, and use red-hot electric iron or steel head to make cover wall holes, which can also play the role of drainage and ventilation.

Part VI: planting orchids

Put the orchid seedlings into the appropriate orchid pot, dredge the root group, make it smooth and natural, and beware of breaking the orchid root. Slowly fill the pre-prepared middle plant material into the basin, gently shake the orchid basin from time to time, and repeatedly beat the basin wall, so that the root of the orchid is in close contact with the plant material. Can first lower the position of the false bulb of the orchid, and then slowly raise the orchid plant with the continuous filling of the plant material, it should be noted that the orchid should be planted shallowly, not deep, the large pseudobulb can leak out, and the pseudobulb can cover half of the pseudobulb or higher than the pseudobulb 2cm, otherwise it will hinder the germination of the orchid bud.

Seventh supplement: shop for orchids

After the orchid plant is finalized, high-quality plant materials such as stone, gold stone and ceramsite can be spread on the basin surface, which can prevent the plant material in the basin from splashing out of the basin when watering the orchid, and it can also keep the orchid plant moist and warm, and the beautiful basin stone can also improve the overall beauty of the orchid.

Step 8: water the orchids

Watering orchids for the first time is watered, and when to water them depends on the integrity of the root system, weather conditions and the wetness of the plant material. If the root system is good and the weather is sunny and warm, you can immediately pour enough fixed root water after planting. If the root is damaged, you should wait for the root wound to heal every two days before pouring enough fixed root water. Especially in cold weather, it is more necessary to pour root water carefully, because the draught of newly planted orchid root is less, once the water is accumulated, it will be a big trouble.
