For the pruning of young and prosperous apple trees with low yield, the pruning techniques of light pruning, local control and gradual relaxation should be mastered.

Cut the whole tree lightly. The main purpose of this study is to gently cut and slow the elongated branches, dense branches and strong branches of the backbone. After 1-2 years of slow release, most of them can blossom and bear fruit. After the tree grows stably, some of the weaker branches will be retracted moderately, and then gradually cultivated into large, medium and small fruiting branches. When withdrawing weak branches, do not retract too much or too heavy at one time, otherwise it will cause the tree to flourish again and affect the yield.

Locally control pruning. For the trees with sparse layer-shaped pruning of the small crown, the outer branches and both sides of the branches are moderately cut off when pruning, so as to promote the branching and increase the number of branches on the periphery and both sides, so as to contain and ease the growth potential of the branches on the inner chamber of the crown and on the back of the backbone branches. At the same time of properly thinning the inner bore branches, dense branches and strong branches on the back, some auxiliary branches were stripped, girdled or curved, in order to ease the growth and promote flower formation and fruiting.

Gradually ease the pruning. This is an important way to slow down the growth of young and prosperous apple trees and increase the yield of flowers. the specific method is to delay the growth power of a single branch and increase the total growth of the whole tree through light pruning of the whole tree. When the total growth potential of the whole tree is relaxed to a certain extent, and then through local control measures, the growth potential of the strong and prosperous part tends to the average growth of the whole tree, so as to facilitate the formation of flowers and fruit.

Through the above-mentioned pruning measures, after relaxing the tree potential, we can appropriately reduce the amount of peripheral branches, cut or remove some inner bore branches, so as to maintain good light transmission conditions and promote its high quality and high yield. However, when red Fuji low-yield young trees are cut in winter, we should focus on dealing with the strong branches that disturb the tree potential, mainly light cutting and thinning, the opposite side branches are not short, do not shrink, as far as possible to increase the amount of flowers on the side branches. When the tree is particularly prosperous, winter pruning can be light cutting of the whole tree, and then summer pruning will be carried out in time according to the growth and branch growth of the whole tree to stabilize the tree potential.
