The castrated lamb or ram has the advantages of gentle temperament, convenient management, saving feed, and the meat is tasteless and delicate, so it is easy to fatten. Therefore, all male lambs or rams that are not used for breeding are generally castrated. Castrated sheep are called Capricorn. Male lambs should be castrated 3 weeks after birth. Common castration methods are:

(1) castration clamp method

With special castration forceps, clamp hard in the upper part of the scrotum, the spermatic cord will be broken, and the testicles will gradually atrophy. Because this method does not cut the wound, there is no risk of blood loss and infection. However, inexperienced people often fail to cut off the spermatic cord and fail to achieve the goal of castration.

(2) knife cutting method

Use a sharp knife to cut open the scrotum and remove the testicles. The method is: two people cooperate, Baoding sheep, disinfect the outside of sheep scrotum with 3% carbonic acid or iodine. For those who undergo surgery after disinfection, hold the top of the scrotum in one hand to prevent the testicles of the lambs from retraction into the abdominal cavity. The other hand uses a sterilized knife to make a small incision under the side of the scrotum, which is about 1 / 3 of the length of the scrotum to squeeze out the testicles. After incision, pull out and tear off the testicles together with the spermatic cord. After taking out the testicles on one side, take the testicles on the other side in accordance with the law. Experienced people cut open the mediastinum of the scrotum and squeeze out the testicles on the other side to remove them. In this way, less a knife edge, after testicular removal, the scrotum incision alignment, coated with iodine disinfection, and sprinkled with anti-inflammatory powder. After 1-2 days can be checked, such as scrotum contraction, it is a safe performance, if the scrotum swelling, can squeeze out the blood, and then smear iodine and anti-inflammatory powder, generally will not have any danger. The castrated lamb should be sheltered in a sheepfold with clean mattress to prevent infection.

(3) ligation method

When the male lamb is a week old, the testes are squeezed in the scrotum and tightly ligated in the upper part of the scrotum with a rubber band or string, cutting off the blood flow. After about half a month, the scrotum and testicles atrophy and fall off naturally. This method is simple and easy, and the effect is good.
