The first mating should be arranged when the ewes are 12~14 months old and weigh 40 kg. At this time, the ewes are fully mature and produce high milk after mating and lambing.

Is the season appropriate? It is arranged to breed in September ~ October every year, lambing in February ~ March in early spring of the following year, and lactation period happens to be in spring, summer and autumn. The abundant green feed in lactation period is beneficial to improve the milk yield of sheep. In addition, by the time of autumn mating again, the 300-day lactation period has passed 200 days, and milk production and fetal development are not affected after mating.

Sectional feeding? During the first 3 months of breeding, the fetus grows slowly and its nutritional requirements are not high, but the fetus develops rapidly in the last 2 months and needs higher nutrition. Meanwhile, the ewes also need to recover their physique and reserve nutrition for the next lactation period. Production should ensure that pregnant sheep have 2 months dry milk period, during which appropriate concentrate feeding. It can be fed according to the daily milk 1~1.5 kg feed standard, daily hay 1 kg, silage 2 kg, concentrate 0.3~0.4 kg. The milk yield of sheep reached its peak at 40~70 days after delivery.

In the peak milk production period, in addition to ensuring the supply of concentrate and high-quality hay, green feed, silage and some root feeds should be fed as much as possible. Generally, 2.5 kg hay is fed daily, and 0.4 kg concentrate is fed for every 1 kg milk produced. The concentrated feed formula is 60% corn, 25% bran, 15% bean cake, 3kg salt and 2kg bone meal are added for every 100kg feed. Lactating sheep must be supplied with sufficient clean drinking water, otherwise it will cause appetite loss, affect lactation, and make sheep mucosa dry, disease resistance reduced. Drinking water is generally 3 to 5 times the milk production.

Master milking? Before milking, wipe and massage the sheep breasts with hot water, first rub them from left to right and then massage them from top to bottom. General use of master milking method, first with the thumb and index finger fixed nipple base, prevent milk reflux, and then in turn the middle finger, ring finger, small finger palm compression, promote milk discharge. Milking 2 to 3 times a day. In addition, goats prefer clean, dry, fresh air and an optimal temperature of 12 - 18℃. Summer should pay attention to heatstroke prevention and cooling, winter cold keep warm. Often brush sheep body, promote blood circulation, reduce sheep disease occurrence.
