Mountain rose

Greenovia

Sedum Sedum,

Aeonium.

Features:

Because of its dormant period to avoid strong light, heat and other adverse weather, the outer leaves aging and withering, while the central part of the leaves tightly wrapped together, the plant type is very similar to the budding roses, precisely because of this characteristic, it makes most plant lovers crazy.

Shape feature

The fleshy leaves of mountain roses are alternate and arranged in a rosette, and the plant width varies greatly from 2 cm to 40 cm according to different varieties. The leaves are gray-green, blue-green mountain rose or emerald green and so on. Florescence late spring to early summer, racemes, yellow flowers. After flowering, with the maturity of the seed, the mother plant will gradually wither, but there will be small buds growing at the base.

About the matrix

Because the planting environment is that the indoor closed balcony is not well ventilated, the amount of non-granular part of the matrix used is very small, only about 1pm 6 rice chaff shell and peat; the remaining 5pm 6 are all kinds of particles, including honeycomb cinder, blue stone, light stone, ceramsite, perlite, pebbles, etc.; in addition, 2 mm diameter Maifan stone and pebbles are used for paving.

The particles at the bottom of the basin are larger, but the particle size in the middle is best controlled at 3 mm or less, because the root system of mountain roses is relatively fine, and the particles are too large, which is not conducive to root growth. There are no pesticides in the matrix and fungicides other than potassium permanganate are rarely used. All substrates are soaked in water before use, and then put into the microwave oven to sterilize for 20 minutes, at the expense of some beneficial bacteria in exchange for peace of mind to avoid pesticide residues.

About watering

The air humidity is relatively high, Rain Water is relatively more, where the light intensity is insufficient, water is usually given only once every 4 weeks, in order to control the plant type. However, the matrix of seedlings can not be dry in one year, and the amount of water supply is at least twice as much as that of adults. Can soak the basin to supply water, the water surface is about 2 stroke 3 height of the basin, soak it out for a few seconds, keep the surface of the matrix dry all the year round, so as to avoid bad heart as far as possible.

Another advantage of soaking basin is that it can freely control the water supply, for example, at the end of spring, many growers will gradually reduce the water supply and slowly transition to water cut-off throughout the summer. You can also choose to soak the basin quickly and take it out after a quick dip in the water to keep the bottom of the basin moist.

Especially small seedlings, there is basically no need to cut off water in summer, at most a little water control. Another reminder, try not to accumulate water in the center of the leaf, otherwise it is easy to rot the core, especially in the indoor environment with poor ventilation. If the leaves inadvertently accumulate water, dry them with cotton swabs as soon as possible, and then ventilate as much as possible.

About ventilation

Mountain roses must be well ventilated in summer. For example, put it in the open window during the day and in the air-conditioned room at night. If you don't turn on the air conditioner, leave it by the open window all day. I am so worried that I can even hang a breeze ceiling fan nearby. As long as it is well ventilated and the plant roots are healthy, it will be safe to spend the summer. But it's best not to put it here in the morning, put it there in the evening, and move it every day. Excessive indulgence is not conducive to the normal growth of mountain roses. If you want to grow plants well, the key is not what you want to give them, but what they want.

Other seasons in the indoor normal display on the line, there is no need to deliberately open windows for ventilation. Ventilation in spring and autumn is fine, or not in the spring and autumn. There is little need for ventilation in winter.

About lighting

The southward window is ideal, of course, the more ideal state is open-air cultivation, but this is just a dream for most friends who only have balconies. So except for lovers in blessed places such as Kunming, it is hard for most Jingtian lovers to see mountain roses being sunburned. What a charming purplish red with a gray background!

About reproduction

Mountain roses can be propagated by sowing, ramification and beheading.

Sowing seeds

The seeds should be stored in the cold room of the refrigerator, which still has a high germination rate for about 5 years. Sowing is carried out in the growing season, and autumn is the best. Spread the seeds evenly on the soil surface, do not cover the soil, put them in a place where there is no direct sunlight, use / soak pot 0 method to water, to prevent small seeds from being washed away by water, germinate 5-10 days after sowing, keep the soil moist at the seedling stage, and give sufficient and soft light. When the seedlings are overcrowded, time should be given to the seedlings so as not to affect their growth.

Ramet

With the exception of Aeonium diplocycla and other individual varieties, mountain roses are easy to produce lateral buds. They can be dried under the petals for 3 days to 5 days in the growing season. After the wound is dry, they can be planted in pots directly. It is easy to survive without roots.

Beheading

In autumn, dental floss or fishline is stuffed through the gap between leaves and leaves, and a circle around the height in the middle of the plant can separate the core from the base. Leave the base in the original basin, be careful not to let the wound get wet, otherwise it will rot easily and will soon produce a lot of lateral buds between the leaves. The strangled core is placed in a ventilated place to dry the wound, depending on the plant size and ambient humidity, ranging from two or three days to a week, and then dry in the fluvo-aquic soil (meaning that the substrate is damp but not wet, it will form a mass when pinched with your hands, and it will spread out when you let go), waiting for roots. Once signs of growth are observed, the water supply can be maintained normally.

Tips

For newly purchased mountain rose plants, if the outer leaves are withered, it is best to peel off the withered leaves, otherwise it is easy to mildew and become infected inward. In addition, the withered roots should be removed before potting, and only healthy and full roots should be retained. Dry planting in fluvo-aquic soil after drying for 2-7 days, the plants recover faster after root trimming.
