First, attach importance to the selection and cultivation of breeding rams:

The selection of breeding ram requires physical appearance to meet the requirements of breeding, strong physique, good testicular development and obvious male characteristics. In particular, priority should be given to breeding rams with tall bodies and large testicles. The semen quality of the breeding ram must be checked frequently, the ram that does not meet the requirements should be found and eliminated in time, and attention should be paid to selecting and breeding rams from the offspring of ewes with high fecundity.

The selection and breeding of male sheep is a long-term task and needs to be carried out unremittingly. Selection focuses on heredity and cultivation on environment. Only by combining the two can the genetic potential of the breeder ram be inherited. Therefore, in the process of selection, strict selection and elimination must be carried out in the three links of birth, weaning and first year of lamb. Selection should not only pay attention to individual growth and development and related traits, but also should be comprehensively considered according to the production performance and main characters of their parents. Cultivation means to meet all kinds of nutritional needs under good environmental conditions so that the genetic potential of their offspring can be brought into full play. If the environmental conditions are not available, or all kinds of nutrition can not be satisfied, it is difficult to judge whether the production performance or character performance is caused by congenital deficiencies or environmental factors, which brings some difficulties to the selection and retention.

(2) rational breeding and utilization of breeding rams:

The breeding ram should be meticulous and thoughtful, so that it is neither too fat nor too thin, and keep it in the middle and upper class all the year round, strong, lively, energetic and lively. The feed of breeding ram requires high nutritional value, good palatability and easy digestion. The suitable concentrate are oats, barley, peas, corn, sorghum, soybean meal, wheat bran and so on. Succulent feeds include carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, sugar beets and silage corn. Roughages include alfalfa hay, green oat hay, clover, high-quality straw and all kinds of hay, etc.; feed for breeding rams should be solved on the spot as far as possible to avoid long-distance transportation, but the types of feed must be satisfied.

1.0 to 1.5 months before the beginning of mating, the relevant technicians should be designated to check the semen quality of the ram participating in the breeding for two purposes: first, to grasp the semen quality of the ram, and if problems are found, measures can be taken as soon as possible to ensure the smooth progress of the breeding work. Another purpose is to eliminate the long-term accumulation of aging, death and disintegrated sperm in the genitals of rams, so as to promote the sexual function of breeding rams and produce new sperm. At the beginning of semen collection, semen is collected once a week, then twice a week, and once every two days. At the time of mating, semen was collected once or twice a day, and as many as 3 or 4 times a day for some excellent adult rams. For those who have collected semen for many times, the interval between two semen collection is 2 hours, so that they have a rest time. For the ram with low semen density, the feeding amount of animal protein and carrots can be increased, and for the ram with poor sperm motility, the amount of exercise should be increased. When the amount of grazing exercise is insufficient, the amount of exercise can be increased by timing, distance and speed every morning. However, it should be noted that do not breed or collect semen half an hour before and after exercise and drinking water, so as not to affect the health of rams. Jia Chunlei
