1. The origin of urea feeding to cattle

Urea is a white crystal, generally containing 42% of nitrogen, 46% of nitrogen. After digestion and utilization of cow stomach, one kilogram of urea is equivalent to 2.6-2.8 kg of protein feed, but it has not been popularized. In 1922, Richardson and others used urea as feed and achieved good results. It was widely promoted all over the world.

2. The principle of feeding cattle with urea

Adult cattle have a well-developed rumen with a capacity of 125-187 liters and contain a large number of bacteria and ciliates. Urea enters the rumen to decompose into carbon dioxide and ammonia and then forms bacterial protein, which is decomposed into amino acids under the action of gastric juice as food enters the stomach and is absorbed by the stomach and intestines.

3. The method of feeding urea

The amount of feeding should be appropriate. In general, it is more appropriate for urea to replace 30% of the dietary protein. According to the concentrate, urea accounts for 2% and 3%. Urea can not be fed alone, there must be crude fiber and energy feed, let alone on an empty stomach. The dietary composition of cattle can not be changed suddenly, because the rumen microorganisms change with the change of feed properties, and the dietary composition changes suddenly.

It is difficult for microorganisms to adapt, and the feeding effect of adding urea is poor. 6-month-old calves and weak and sickly calves should not be supplemented with urea.
